It is the dawn of the Thirtieth Century. The First Solar War has ended as chronicled in the game Starlancer, and the Four Houses of Humanity rule known space. Earth and the inhabitable worlds of its solar system are distant memories, mute reminders of humanity's appetite for self-destruction. Now, with the coming of the Age of Conquest, humanity has begun to focus its efforts towards expansion into the frontier worlds.

Adventure, intrigue, and opportunity beckon you, the bold traveler, in an insanely epic and fascinating science-fiction universe appropriately titled - Freelancer.

Freelancer promises to plunge you into a universe ruled by ruthless pirates, mercenary privateers, and fanatical missionaries. With its sophisticated 3D spaceflight system and real-time 3D character interaction, you will have complete control over buying and selling commodities, accepting missions for hire, customizing your spacecraft, or engaging in high-octane dogfights.

Freelancer - find your fate and make a fortune, or die trying.

Incredable potential for Multiplayer experience!

Graphically still very impressive and will run at max graphic settings on a Geforce 2! If your PC can't run this smoothly, you probably don't have the internet either to read this lol!

Sounds were fantastic

Multiplayer servers were unfortunately at the beginning of the game's life, prone to user hacking! This tragically killed the game prematurely. But fortunately those noobs who did that have long since moved on and the die hards and a new breed of noobs are coming back and there are several servers online still boasting upto 50 players!!!!

If you were a previous player! I urge you to re-install and check it out again! You won't regret it!

If you have a copy of the Microsoft release, you have the advantage of expanding the game with mods from fan sites. One in particular being Freelancer TNG, an extremely popular mod which massively expands the game, adds more systems and bases, ships, parts, weapons and commodities. If you have the relic release, I have heard it was recoded, and won't work with the mods. Overall, very good value for money, well worth it if you can get your hands on it. It is in my top ten games, and i still play it today. With so many new generation games involving an open ended gameplay scenario, this was ahead of it's time when first released. I can only hope some game developer decides to work on and release a sequel (hint). The concept, developed, presented and marketed well, could be very successful. Grab a copy and try it for yourself!

One of the few games that actually lets you play they way you really want. Even from the first time you leave Manhattan you feel like you can do anything your want with no restrictions, but with a compelling storyline its always fun to follow.

Extraordinary space flight sim, it's easy to overlook this game, but Freelancer is in my top ten best games of all time. Give it a go, it won't dissappoint you.
