![]() The controls aren't just awkward, they're bad. The game needs a dedicated jump button on mobile but instead you're forced to rely on a using extra numbers like diagonal directions on a proper control pad. Unfortunately for MM2 this system absolutely doesn't work. It's difficult to judge distances properly and impossible to react on the fly if you get it wrong - jumping and attacking is almost a physical impossibility and overall the system is shot. What's worse is this is literally the first mobile game I've played where I witnessed visible slow-down - chug. The game would crawl to a snail's pace - sort of like playing in slow-motion, except instead of being Matrix cool it's painfully bad. It doesn't help the already poor controls at all. It's sad, because this game had a lot of potential. It's definitely difficult to see how a game like Mega Man 2 would convert to mobile format - I definitely wish they'd tried harder than this. Not even the biggest Mega Man fan would find something to like here.

![]() The graphics in the game appear to be decent 16 bit style graphics, which emphasises the poor sound effects from the game. It's an unimportant area yet still a little disconcerting - when most people will turn off sound before the game begins it seems like a waste of time to even make some, and yet developers should always go to some effort. The theme is once again only a downfall for people who aren't fans of the COD series or WWII games - fans of either will enjoy the game's action and the occasional homage to the large platform title. Importantly, the game is playable on a mobile phone handset - though it does take getting used to. If you play a lot of action titles on your mobile phone you'll most likely pick up the ins and outs of CODWAW rather quickly - otherwise the learning curve might be a little steep. This game isn't going to suddenly make you "get" WWII, COD or even action based mobile games, so if they're not your cup of tea save yourself the hassle. If you're a fan though, you'll enjoy this pleasant piece of portable fan service.

![]() Tower Wars unfortunately failed in both areas. As a TD addict the basics weren't an issue for me, however I still noticed how worthless the tutorials were - what little tutorials there were. And the further I got in the game the easier it was to notice the lack of strategy - the game is extremely static with only one or two different ways to finish a level... Usually one. These problems amplify each other - the simplistic and almost non-existent tutorials inadequately prepare you for the coming levels, while the linearity in the level design means strategies don't typically carry over from level to level. It makes Tower Wars not the TD it sets out to be but a puzzle game with a TD interface. It's disappointing, but ultimately Tower Wars doesn't meet its goals. The fun stops quickly when you realise how restricted you are in your tower placement and choice and while the format and idea works well on a mobile interface the game itself simply isn't worth the time.

![]() Arguably, the action in Quantum of Solace the mobile game is far, far easier to follow compared to the movie - there's no shaky cam nonsense bogging the mobile game down - and it's easier to follow the story on the mobile because it's all spelled out in plain English. Unfortunately the game simply isn't fun and those action sequences are so easy to follow they're simply boring - there seems to be very little variety in the weapons in-game so you'll typically just have to fire constantly. The game also relies on lengthy breaks between checkpoints and trial and error gameplay to extend its already noticeably short game time - the thrilling boat chase scene from the movie instead involves the successful timing of reloads of your machine gun, and timing incorrectly usually results in the player starting from the beginning of the level again. While we'd arguably like to have seen something a little more substantial out of Quantum of Solace on the mobile it's hard to say it's bad... It's just not great. The fact that you are able to clearly follow the storyline might make this a worthwhile purchase alone, if only to find out why Bond does the things he does in the movie.

![]() It's not the perfect mobile game, but it does avoid the usual hassles inherent with creating an action game on the platform by eliminating the clutter. Primarily using a combination of the outer number keys (or the dpad) and the five/Ok key you'll find it quite easy to start your African adventure. The challenge then comes in the slight puzzle elements the game throws in - the sneaking missions, or the driving segments. On top of the excellent combat, the game has some excellent story elements and a rewards system which we really dug. Your choices don't really change the world but they do give you an interesting perspective on how it affects the world - you work for evil men and the things you do have a far reaching effect. You'll occassionally question whether you even want to do a mission, as you know it will effect people poorly. There was a mission in which we had to destroy a village's water supply to damage the other faction in the world - it hurt the villagers more than the other faction. The game lets you purchase items and weapons with the diamonds you receive as a reward for your villainy - which in turn introduces some different tactics into how you approach the gameplay. The Sniper Rifle is by far the best weapon, but we found the pistol to be the best weapon - and the cheapest. Far Cry 2 is a great time waster, with short, sharp missions and fantastic visuals. The autoaim feature robbed the game of some of it's death, but it might be a neccessary evil when playing the shooter genre on the mobile platform.

![]() Unfortunately it's too difficult to actually do any tricks - as a result you'll find yourself only really doing the really basic moves over and over again. We experimented and found we were actually able to win a level by doing nothing but the Indy grab (jump and press the jump button again) over and over again. The graphics are pretty good which is a shame, because the entire game is hampered by the patently unfun control system. With a functional way to actually do tricks Amped could have been good - decent character options, sound and the above average graphics all work in its favour. Until developers work out a reliable way to make controls on mobile games work we think they should stick more basic fields - classic puzzle and casual games. If you are the type of person who can SMS faster than they can type on a keyboard, Amped might be worth the time. If you're one of us regular human beings Amped blows a fuse early on.

![]() The game's story is pretty simple, but it's fun and the gameplay matches it perfectly. As you roll around the world painting everything you see you'll come across Inkt agents you must fight as well as the peaceful inhabitants of your land. Probably the only issue I have with the game is that on occasion these two different characters look a little too similar, and if you're pressed for time while trying to get 100% of the block you're on coloured you can sometimes hastily run into an Inkt agent by accident. De Blob is pretty long as well - it's excellent value for money. You have about At the end of the day De Blob is a well-balanced, easy to control mobile game. It's easy to start and stop a game and immediately pick up where you left off - an essential for portable gaming. It could use a little more polish, but at the end of the day it's a fun game worth your money.

![]() Star Wars: The Force Unleashed does away with the challenging battles, minor rpg elements and - of course - the stellar physics engine. It gets rid of the fast-paced action, the shiny graphics and the simple, yet easy to learn controls. It also waters down the Star Wars story, the lightsaber battles and it puts the Force back on its leash. In fact, THQ Wireless appears to have spent so much time watering down and removing features from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed that they decided to eliminate even moving your character. Instead of you taking Darth Vader's apprentice throughout the Star Wars universe assassinating Jedis, you stand in the centre of the screen and draw objects to activate attacks as enemies attack you. To draw objects you use the numpad on your phone - from a simple line all the way up to complex shapes and stars. The drawing method is actually very intuitive, and it works quickly - implemented in the way that it has been however robs the tie-in of everything the console game is about. It's unfortunate, because as a game it's not that SWTFU isn't fun. Nevertheless, punters expecting a Star Wars experience will be very disappointed - it's not what you might expect. Once you get over the lack of a Star Wars connection you're left with a decent drawing game. Things can get pretty hectic as you go through the game, but you'll eventually be a numpad-drawing pro... If you can stick it out long enough. On a different game this system would definitely work well - even combined with more traditional action game elements it would be worthwhile - something like the Nintendo DS game Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Be warned if you're expecting a Star Wars game however - you are definitely in for a surprise.

![]() To play you group three gems or more together to use them. The coloured gems give you mana so you can cast spells, skulls do damage to your opponent, gold gives you money and purple diamonds give you extra experience. Once you’ve got that much you're ready for battle - you take a turn, your opponent takes a turn, and you try to eliminate your enemy before they do you. The enemy seems to cheat though - when it clears some gems away it can get very lucky with the next gems that drop - it can be frustrating to see your health drop from full to nearly dead in one gem drop. Still, you'll notice that it can happen the other way around, so it’s hard to say if your opponent is cheating. The real meat of the game is in the levelling up - if you level up the right things and get the right spells it won't matter if the computer gets lucky a lot – you can get health back, get extra lives or just do mega-damage to your enemies. You’ll have a lot of fun with Puzzle Quest if you don’t get crazy about the computer “cheating”. It’s heaps of fun and has a ton of length to it – it’s totally worth it.
