This game is great. It's like
Bejeweled except it's got extra incentives like a battle system, levels to gain and a real sense of achievement. It's easy to pick up and play as well - you can save the game mid-way through a battle, or after a quest - pretty much whenever you need, so if you get a call or an SMS you can jump right back in.
To play you group three gems or more together to use them. The coloured gems give you mana so you can cast spells, skulls do damage to your opponent, gold gives you money and purple diamonds give you extra experience. Once you’ve got that much you're ready for battle - you take a turn, your opponent takes a turn, and you try to eliminate your enemy before they do you.
The enemy seems to cheat though - when it clears some gems away it can get very lucky with the next gems that drop - it can be frustrating to see your health drop from full to nearly dead in one gem drop. Still, you'll notice that it can happen the other way around, so it’s hard to say if your opponent is cheating.
The real meat of the game is in the levelling up - if you level up the right things and get the right spells it won't matter if the computer gets lucky a lot – you can get health back, get extra lives or just do mega-damage to your enemies.
You’ll have a lot of fun with Puzzle Quest if you don’t get crazy about the computer “cheating”. It’s heaps of fun and has a ton of length to it – it’s totally worth it.
