Half-Life 2 rumours
pc
Rumours are starting to spread about the development of Half-Life 2. Evil Avatar is the source, and I can assure you that at least part of his 'scoop' is incorrect. Although Valve haven't announced Half-Life 2, Valve would certainly be foolish not to make it - as suggested by Gabe Newell himself, so Half-Life 2 may well happen. It won't, however, be released on a modified QUake engine. Valve Software encountered a host of problems using the Quake 1 engine for Half-Life, and determined long ago that they would need to develop a new proprietry engine for their next big games. This includes Team Fortress 2, and there is no reason to think they wouldn't use it for anything else they are stewing up. The new engine will be far superior to their modified Quake engine (as in quantum leap), and based upon discussions I've had with Valve, if they do indeed make Half-Life 2, it will be using the best technology they can muster.
