Our SimCity review is now live, and it reflects the game I played while it was working - during our time before the game officially went live - but it also reflects our experiences with the problems as they existed at the time the review went live yesterday. To clarify - I played the game at a review event on largely empty global servers, then I waited for the game to go live, played for another 4(ish) hours and threw the review up.

Since then there's been a new patch which removes Cheetah speed from the game to somehow help the game's servers cope with the dataload. That doesn't make any sense to me, and it doesn't reflect the game I played or reviewed (but that doesn't mean my game was incident free either). My experiences are reflected in the review - I docked it points for the launch, but I mostly really enjoyed playing the game, and I think most gamers will too.

SimCity's servers, an artists impression

I think a lot of sim city fans will find it hard to transition between building the metropolis and building the community and it won't be enough for them. and sim city always seemed to be a sp game so the drm is always gonna irk them.

I don't think so. I think change up is great because it forces you to look at your problems from a different point of view - but it still lets you build the epic city you want (as long as you know how).

A lack of Cheetah speed will definitely slow that process down though.

7.5? Obviously a 10/10 game, GA is terrible console fanboy site run by console scrub Joaby. I didn't have any connection troubles, you must be making it up, always on DRM is great.

Oh wait, it's not a Blizzard game.

FYI I've been playing for the last hour or so and haven't had any problems except for hating the lack of Cheetah speed.

If you aren't having connection issues you are one of the lucky ones hoax86
Nothing but connection troubles, tho they have added an extra oceanic server now, but if you want to play during regular hours, good luck.

I admit tho that since the first 2 days it's alot less waiting to play but the servers still keep disconnecting in the middle of loading or during gameplay and they if it hasn't synced you've lost everything you did.

as for gameply I'm finding the city builds too quick then you are left with too much sewage, pollution, not enough power/water and no way of getting rid of it since you needs tonnes of money and space to build the upgraded centers that resolve some of the issues yet if you do it differently the citizens just complain the whole time. Micromanagement excess. Overall tho when you are playing the game is fine, just needs tweaking on the grids, map sizes and the bugs like no power despite there being an excess and upgraded utilities takes too long to upgrade meanwhile your city becomes a sesspool of poluttion, crime and sick people..

i'd give it a 6/10

I don't think you're doing it quite right if your city is a cesspool.

obviously, i can cheat and build two cities and send all the waste and industry to the other. which i did and that works except the waste barely moves despite it saying it is.
but ultimately there's not enough room, the city cizes are tiny in comparison with past simcities.

It'll be better when they sort out their server woes and start selling larger land sizes for $15 a pop. Then you can play it as the series was originally envisioned.

Yeah, and only months after you've already purchased it and an extra $15 you shouldn't pay. :(

All this SimCity talk has made me want to dig out SimCity 4 and play that again.

Because, you know, I actually can, despite it being over 10 years since it was released.
