Obsidian's Aliens RPG - the game we should be playing
By now you have either played Aliens: Colonial Marines or know someone else who has. You can read NachosJustice's actually kind of forgiving review right here and we can all try to think back to the nineties, when good Aliens games came out like Alien Trilogy and... Alien 3 on the SNES. In this instance, by good I mean 'not a total freaking train wreck.'
And speaking of decent games set in the Alien franchise, new information has since come to light on Aliens: Crucible - the RPG Obsidian had been developing for Sega back in 2009 - before Sega decided to scrap it. Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart had explained to Joystiq back in 2010 that the game was pretty much complete when it got the axe, but now thanks to the magic of the internet we can get a glimpse of just some of what the geniuses at Sega traded away for a god damned joke of an FPS. Embedded below, as spotted by PCGamesN is an animation reel by Danny Garnett, showing off the work he did on Aliens: Crucible. Compare that with this next footage, which John Walker of Rock, Paper, Shotgun captured - displaying a bunch of Aliens doing their idiotic waddle from Aliens Colonial Marines - note that both videos are metered content. Crucible would have also featured Colonial Marines, but instead of blindly shooting at walls and teleporting in front of you, these colonial marines would have had a large variety of different tools and abilities at their disposal and would have fought a large variety of horrifying alien creatures - like the kickass looking Rhino Alien you can see at the top of this post. So, can you think of any way we can get that Aliens: Crucible game back in action, to get the taste of A:CM out of our mouths? Are there any other Aliens games I missed in my round up of the only good Aliens game ever released? Let us know in the comments below!
