The DayZ blog updated on the weekend, showing off some stunning new aspects of the game, as well as welcoming Ivan - one of the two Bohemia Interactive employees detained in Greece on suspicion of espionage - back into the team. Among the various changes to the multiplayer engine and loot tables, the team have also been hard at work making character customisation significantly more robust.

A selection of new female models will be available in the standalone

The new blog also discusses the continuing work being done to the inventory and crafting systems, and Ivan Buchta's work on the new and revamped version of Chernarus which will be available in the end product. The blog also answers questions from the community relating to private hives and servers, the endgame, console versions and how hunger, thirst and temperature will be indicated in the planned HUD-free environment.

The blog is well worth checking out as it has a good stack of information and pretty, pretty pictures. I have to say, while I'm sure most of us were upset that the standalone version of DayZ wasn't released last December as was originally planned, it looks like these changes will be worth the wait. Call me back when they confirm they've optimized it.

A game should not run poorly on a system that was top of the line two years after it came out when set to medium graphics.

DayZ does not work the same as Arma 2, you can't use the release date of Arma 2 as basis for expectations on how your computer should run DayZ. DayZ uses full skeleton simulation on all the zeds, that's the source of the cpu chugging. They've drastically simplified the way DayZ standalone does zeds, so it's going to be a lot faster.

Call ME back when they add some compelling zombie action...

Nah, seriously though, I do hope they make the zombies and the survival the strongest focus. There's already plenty of games where I can shoot other players, I really hangging out for a game where the biggest challenge is staying alive in the world itself. :)
