2K Marin's XCOM still alive and on its way
It has been a long time since we last heard about 2K Marin's XCOM - the Tactical action reboot of the popular strategy series. As noted by Joystiq however, Take-Two explained that the game was still happening during a financial call today - with 2K Marin making progress and the title expected to launch during fiscal year 2014 - which runs from April 1st 2013 to March 31st 2014.
This will come as a shock to some, who thought the FPS had been dropped in favour of Firaxis' excellent turn-based strategy version XCOM: Enemy Unknown (check out my review if you haven't already.) XCOM was first announced back in 2010 to a good deal of howling and gnashing of teeth - much of which died down when Enemy Unknown was announced and turned out to be so popular. XCOM is set during the 60s and follows FBI agent William Carter - part of the newly assembled XCOM tasked with protecting earth from alien scum. Nothing has been heard about the game's progress in a while, with 2K refusing to comment on rumours that the game was now a console only squad-based 3rd person shooter, a la SOCOM. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing what they originally had planned, particularly since I now have Enemy Unknown to scratch my masochistic strategy itch. Take Two made the perfect move with the XCOM franchise, and I'd like to see other reboots respect original fans in the same manner. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
