The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced for next-gen consoles

CD Projekt RED were set to announce The Witcher 3 today, but last night the latest edition of Game Informer took some of the wind out of their sails. Nevertheless the third game in The Witcher series has now been announced - and it's looking pretty kick ass.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be completely open world, with a game world three times larger than The Witcher 2 and approximately 20% larger than Skyrim's according to CD Projekt RED. The world of Nilfgaard will feature a day/night cycle and varying weather conditions - and it will take you 40 minutes to ride across the game's three different regions - Skellige, Novigrad and No Man's Land.

The third and final game in The Witcher trilogy, Wild Hunt will make use of the newly announced REDengine 3 and is expected to be available on all 'high-end platforms' in 2014. If you think that the Witcher 2 was underrated by most people but overrated by the people that love it, then yes I agree limimi. It was a solid game, showed great improvement over the previous title, but still fell short of the "mature" setting they were hoping for.

If you're going to present your game as having moral grey areas, maybe don't make the choices to cut and dried. And also, having naked women doesn't make your game seem mature, it makes it seem like it's pandering to teenagers.

I could kiss you hoax, that is exactly what I thought. And everyone hated me for it, my friends wouldn't talk to me, my mum spat on me. The Witcher 2 has some passionate fans.

I loved The Witcher and The Witcher 2... But when you're right, you're right. There were some good choices and political fall out and results of your actions that made the game mature in some fashion, but it was also very Black and White in other places... And, for sure, adding sex scenes and titties... Well, I won't lie and say I hated that, but it sure didn't scream: "For mature, adult players! Teenagers just won't get this!"

The Witcher 1 had a much better choice and consequence system, a bit more open than Witcher 2, however the Witcher 2 felt much more like one of the original stories by Andrzej Sapkowski and while much more contained and linear (though through multiple paths) wasn't as deep and far reaching as the first game.

I look forward to the 3rd game and would like to hope that it's as good if not better than both the previous titles.

Also if you were to take out the nudity and sex completely I think you could definitely argue that the game is easily still more mature than most other 'fantasy' rpg's out there simply due to the political and philosophical issues at stake.

The wierd thing is that I don't agree with that. The choices in The Witcher 1 lead to exactly the same cut scenes every time... While things changed very slightly during the story, like who helped you in the end, the actual choices mattered very little. In The Witcher 2, who you sided with gave you a different game, thought obviously very similar.

A lot of The Witcher 2's choices were about letting characters who had wronged you live or die, which probably will have more effect in the next game than it did in that one. I played both games on the PC so it doesn't really concern me, but how easy will it be to import save games from an old console to the new ones required to play The Witcher 3?

I wouldn't hold my breath for save transfers between consoles. CD Projekt have always been pretty heavily on the PC's side of things, so unless Sony and Microsoft go out of their way to make it available to developers I doubt they'd bother.

"The Witcher 3 cannot be finished in your natural life span. You will need to pass the game down to your children, assuming you can afford any once you quit your job to keep playing The Witcher 3."
