Epic Mickey developers Junction Point closed by Disney
Disney have officially closed the Austin based developer Junction Point - developers of Epic Mickey and its sequel - and home of Warren Spector. Founded in 2005, Junction Point gave Spector a chance to mix two loves - video games and Disney, but unfortunately it didn't work out as well as some might expect.
As noted by Joystiq, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two sold 529,000 copies according to NPD data. As you might recall, kozeeii was not particularly impressed with the game when he played it either, giving it a 3/10 - and he wasn't alone, with its Metacritic score at 59 on the PlayStation 3. In a statement on the matter, Disney said: It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We're extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2. Disney will now focus solely on their upcoming franchise - Disney Infinity - a Skylanders style blend of collectible figurines and video games set to launch in June. We have reached out to Spector to learn what he will do now and we'll let you know what he says. |
