Vigil Games core team becomes Crytek USA
When the various parts of THQ were auctioned off, we were sad to see Vigil Games - developers of Joaby's GOTY 2010 Darksiders and its sequel - were not picked up. Most of THQ's other subsidiaries were grabbed by one company or another, so it was depressing to see talented developers losing their jobs.
Things still look grim for Samael though It's not all bad news however, as some of Vigil's core members now make up Crytek USA - including Vigil co-owner and former General Manager David Adams, who heads up the new studio. Crytek USA is located in Austin, Texas and includes 35 developers in all - part of the team from Vigil and a slew of new developers from around Austin. Unfortunately, Crytek won't be purchasing the Darksiders IP. Speaking to Gamasutra, Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli explained his company's plans for the developers: It would be pretty much safe to say that this team will be working on... online games and kick-ass triple-A productions. It is going to be quite a significant investment for Crytek over the next five years. Oh. Oh well. The Darksiders franchise and the remainder of Vigil Games remains with THQ, who are currently looking for buyers while they go through the Chapter 11 process. Here's hoping someone picks them up, so we can see another chapter in the Darksiders saga - I'd rather that than some online game. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
