This Week's Nintendo Direct Details
Nintendo held one of their frequent Nintendo Directs last night, this time discussing upcoming titles and software for the Wii U. Events kicked off this week with a discussion of different things the Miiverse can do. In his usual stilted fashion, Satoru Iwata talked up various functions of the Miiverse, like asking for help and drawing stuff. He also discussed Nintendo's plans for expanding the Miiverse to the 3DS and mobile phones.
![]() Iwata then went on to announce Nintendo's plans for the Wii U's Virtual Console, which features save back ups like the 3DS (and unlike the Wii.) With a staggering display of arrogance and complete ineptitude towards the cloud and interconnectivity, Nintendo explained that people who own a Wii version of a Virtual Console game will be able to get the Wii U version of the game for a discount. Yes, if you already paid nine dollars for a twenty year old game on your previous Nintendo console, Nintendo expects you to pay for it again on your new one. Screw you too Iwata! The rest of the Nintendo Direct showcased the various new titles coming to the Wii U in the near future. We saw Platinum Games' The Wonderful 101 - a kind of comic book Pikmin in which you control large groups of people fighting against aliens and Bayonetta 2, which I assume will be more of the same ridiculous Japanese nonsense mixed with outstanding combat. They also announced The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and awesomely Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem - a crossover between Nintendo and Atlus' popular franchises. The presentation wrapped up with news of Monolith Soft (of Xenoblade Chronicles fame) and their next title - currently unnamed, but almost definitely a Xenoblade sequel, given the action bar, the Xenogears style X on the splash screen and the kickass looking motorcycle mech we see. A new addition to the Xenogears saga makes me happy enough to pretend Nintendo aren't attempting to price gouge everyone on crappy games like Balloon Fight. If you want to watch the Nintendo Direct presentation yourself, it's currently available on Youtube and will hit our videos library later. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below! |
