Disney announces Disney Infinity - their answer to Skylanders
Skylanders is preposterously popular. I don't understand why, but then again I am too poor to buy bunches of figurines. Joaby loves it, I know that. So it comes as no surprise that Disney have announced their own take on it, with Disney Infinity. A cross-platform effort covering consoles, PC and mobile, Disney Infinity will allow you to play with characters from all aspects of the Disney universe - Jack Sparrow, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Alladin and so on.
Like Skylanders, you will have physical representations of characters you can hook up to your devices to import your characters into games, which Disney are developing based on various universes. Disney have announced games and sets of characters based on The Incredibles, Monsters University and Pirates of the Carribean to start - games and sets will be bundled together. Disney Infinity is set to launch in June this year on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita, with mobile to follow. Embedded below is the official announcement trailer for the game/franchise/experience/thing - it's currently only available on Youtube, so it is metered content, but as soon as it hits our servers I'll be sure to update the post. What do you think, are you looking forward to checking this out? Let us know in the comments below! Each game will feature unique gameplay specific to its universe - for example, the PotC game features Assassin's Creed 3 style naval combat and the Monsters University game will feature Sully and Mike fighting against a rival university using various traps. While playing each title in the different universes will be an end in itself, completing objectives will unlock items and tools to use in the 'Toybox' - an open sandbox where players can create their own levels and share them online. Like LittleBigPlanet, the Toybox mode not only allows level design, but has its own logic editor - allowing players to create everything from basic third person platformers to vertical shmups, racing games and side scrolling platformers.
