Pokémon X and Y announced!
Ok you naysayers, stop rolling your eyes, Pokémon is cool. Ok, well maybe not cool, but it's fun. And the next generation of Pokémon games has finally been announced - Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. The announcement came as a part of Nintendo's first Nintendo Direct of 2013, dubbed a Pokémon Direct by Satoru Iwata, who then announced the two new titles would be available on the 3DS worldwide in October.
Not much information is currently known about Pokémon X and Y - the sixth generation in the series. We do know the three starter Pokémon however - Chespin, a Grass type, Fennekin, a Fire type and Froakie, a water type. We also see new battle animations - significantly more complex than the shaking sprites of old - and a glowing bird and deer, which are no doubt the games' legendary Pokémon. You can watch the Pokémon Direct below - it's currently only available via Youtube, so it's metered content, but once it hits the library I'll be sure to update this post. Updated: Embedded below now is the trailer for Pokémon X and Y, which you can also watch in our videos library - if you want to watch the entire Nintendo Direct though, you can still do so on Youtube Now you've watched that, what do you think? That's correct, Froakie is clearly the coolest Pokémon out of the available starters. This continues a very long tradition in Pokémon, only ever abandoned for Gold and Silver - the Water type starter is always the best. Look at all the starters on Bulbapedia - Squirtle, Mudkip, Piplup, and Oshawott just dump all over the Fire and Grass Pokémon. Snivy? Are you kidding me? Why didn't you just come out and tell me you were an idiot in the first place? Chimchar? CHIMCHAR? I will slap you if you ever say Chimchar to me again. Ok it's true that Torchic and Turtwig are cute as freaking hell, but up against Mudkip and Piplup they still lose out. Why does Game Freak love water so much? We may never know. As human beings though, I bet their bodies aren't 60% Fire or Grass. I am obviously looking forward to X and Y, but how about you? Let us know in the comments below!
