Elite: Dangerous passes £1,250,000 Kickstarter
The Crowd-fund Funstravaganza will return soon, but in the meantime... David Braben's Elite: Dangerous was successfully funded today, currently at £1,272,509 of its £1,250,000 goal with 47 hours to go. Stretch goals have been announced, with a Mac version available 'within 3 months of the intial Windows launch' if the project reaches £1.4 million and at £1.5 million the roster of playable space ships will increase from 15 to 25.
While I was initially incredibly sceptical of Braben's Kickstarter project, the team at Frontier Developments have included a lot more information about the upcoming game and while certain aspects of it - like exactly how multiplayer it is - still concern me, overall it looks like it could be a solid, if overpriced, project. This is in contrast to Godus - a project I will remain sceptical of until I actually play it. Godus, the second 'experiment' by 22Cans, reached £526,563 of its £450,000 target just before Christmas - proving that Stockholm Syndrome apparently still ravages the video game community when it comes to Molyneux and 22Cans. If you want to throw some money at Braben and Frontier Developments you have just under two days to help Kickstart it - a £20 pledge will get you a copy of the game. Are you going to back Elite, or have you backed it already? Let us know in the comments below.
