Whether you are excited or worried about The Elder Scrolls Online, we haven't seen it in action very much. That changes now however, with Zenimax Online's latest trailer showcasing TES Online's gameplay. Set a thousand years before the events of Skyrim, TES Online will take place in Tamriel - the centre of the Elder Scrolls universe and setting for Oblivion.

The video is full of gameplay footage and features explanations of certain aspects of the game by Director Matt Firor, Art Director Jared Carr and Lead Gameplay Designer Nick Konkle. TES Online is going for an exploration-based MMO - searching out interesting things while exploring the landscape - and will feature new server architecture designed to ensure you and your friends can play together through the use of a 'Mega-server'. It currently sounds similar to the system used in The Secret World, although some hints imply a slightly different set up.

A slew of other things are mentioned in the video, which clocks in at nine and a half minutes - turning into a vampire, the way classes work, the way cities react to your deeds and and the combat system. You can watch the trailer embedded below or in our videos library - going full screen for HD of course. I have to say, while I was sceptical and borderline cynical about TES Online when it was first announced, this video certainly makes the game look more interesting than I expected and I'm now more of a guarded optimist. What do you think, are you looking forward to its 2013 release date? Let us know in the comments below!

Looks okay - would have been better if it were first person though.

Even if it has first person it is clear from that video that first person isn't the focus and would likely play terribly due to a crummy PoV, mouse movement, and lack of screen presence (like the visibility of the weapons).

When you see characters doing Street Fighter-esque attacks it pretty much rules out first person view game play.
