Dead Island: Riptide is the second title in the Dead Island series, and today Deep Silver announced the release date - April 26th in Europe and April 23rd in North America. Here in Australia we can expect to get it along with Europe - maybe a day earlier as the 25th is a Thursday. Riptide introduces a fifth character to the game, along with a new location - the tropical island Palanai.

I had a great time playing Dead Island - it was buggy, but it's an amazing amount of fun - check out my review right here. An open world full of horror and carnage, it was filled to the brim with brutal situations and unhappy endings. Riptide takes place just after the events of the first game, with the player characters in an awful new situation once the military ship they escaped to is overrun by the infected.

Embedded below is the debut cinematic trailer for Riptide, which isn't quite as stirring (or as nice looking) as the debut trailer for the first game, but has the benefit of being developed in house - and is still moving in its own way. You can also watch the trailer in our videos library - going full screen for HD of course. Incidentally, if you haven't played Dead Island, the Halloween sale on Steam has it for pretty cheap - and once you've got it do a google search for mods - there are some amazing mods and fixes out there. Did you like Dead Island? Will you grab Riptide? Let us know in the comments below!

Enjoyed Dead Island immensely, despite the bugs. Hopefully the DayZ craze has them pushing this in a bit more of a sandbox direction.

Well that didn't show much at all. Thought they were ripping off the farcry 1 intro there for a sec. Keen to see what happens with this game though, I enjoyed the first game. I just hope they fix the game so guns are worth having in your inventory.

I'll be the voice of dissent then. I -HATED- Dead Island. From the moment it's beautiful, emotoinal trailer promised a million times more then the skillless writers and designers could ever have hoped to give, the whole thing was a downhill ride into banality. They gave us a video that promised a zombie experince with real story and characters and a setting we could sink our teeth into... And instead we got Dead Island: Repetition Now In Box Form!

This new intro stinks of the same rot and disease. The makers of this game should quit and go into making short movies about the zombie appocolypse. I'd pay to see those... I'd pay you to carry a copy of Dead Island out of my house so I didn't have to touch it with my naked hands.
