Linux and Steam, together at last
As reported by Game Informer, Valve have finally begun admitting users to use the Linux version of Steam. This first beta is fairly small in scope and the only game available is Left 4 Dead 2 - Valve are requesting only experienced Linux users jump in for now. Less experienced users should hold off until the next beta release, which should be a little smoother and a bit larger in scope.
If you are an experienced Linux user, you can apply for the beta by filling out the beta application survey through your Steam account. The current beta supports Ubuntu 12.04 and on, although depending on how experienced you are you might be able to get it going on other distros - though I'm not sure how much Valve would appreciate it. Are you looking forward to using Steam on your Linux box? Do you even have Linux? What flavour? Let us know in the comments below!
