Criterion will return to Burnout, might whip out Road Rash
In an interview with The Guardian, Criterion have explained their plans post-Need For Speed - and chief among them is a plan to return to the Burnout series once Need For Speed: Most Wanted is out on shelves on November 1st. Explaining his thoughts on Criterion's future, Creative Director Craig Sullivan said:
" We will make another Burnout game at some point. Obviously, as we're working on NFS we're thinking of really good ideas that aren't right for this series; there are ideas that we're going to explore with Burnout. And we wouldn't be making NFS or Burnout games if we didn't think the driving genre had a long shelf life and that we could push the boundaries. There's a lot of new stuff in Most Wanted, a lot for people to get their heads around - and sometimes there's only so much explaining you can do - we've reined in some of the ideas we had for this game, they were a little ahead of their time". He followed this up with other possible ideas for games - a game trading in cars for guns a la Criterion's 2006 FPS Black or a new Road Rash. Of course, a possible new Road Rash is both excellent and old news for regular readers of GameArena, what with Joaby's interview with Alex Ward back in September already putting the idea forward. What do you think of a new Burnout - and what style would you like it to follow? Would you want a classic track-based Burnout, or something more free-roaming? Let us know in the comments below - and definitely read the rest of Criterion's interview with The Guardian, it's very insightful. |
