XCOM: Enemy Unknown Street Date breaks and we review it

Those of you hanging out for Firaxis' reboot of the classic X-COM series have had that wait shortened a little - the game has broken street date and is available for purchase right now. If you're on the fence about the purchase Limimi has taken on the game in our official review, and he's apparently a bit sad that he let me die.

Due to bugs which will hopefully be removed soon, you might attempt to send a soldier to the top floor of a building or some scaffolding, only to have the game decide you meant to send them into the completely uncovered area beneath. Sometimes it triggers the change when you choose where to move and at other times it flicks back and forth between the two options at the speed of sound. Either way, I can’t imagine how I will explain it to Joab ‘Geormie’ Gilroy’s grieving family.

I imagine my grieving family would tell him that they want results, not excuses. Read the full thing here to see what he thinks, and let us know in the comments - do you think it's worth the purchase, or are the old games still keeping you happy?

Thanks for the heads-up Paul.

My advice is to have a designated point man who is always the first into risky situations and extremely expendable. In the old games these were usually the people with garbage stats who were never going to amount to anything. It adds value to name them after people you don't like. I look forward to testing this strategy tonight and seeing how long Tony and Julia last against hordes of aliens.

Oh, how I used to love sending the rookies in with stun prods. So many incapacitated Sectoids, so many dead soldiers.

Played it most of last night (just managed to get Laser Weapons) and love it - the game is very story driven and atmospheric...

Havent run into any bugs so far

Trying not to reload if I make a mistake (although I admit I did once when my sniper - named after my wife - took multiple floater plamsa shots and died)
