The indie horror scene has had a bit of a boom recently, beginning with the success of Amnesia and continuing with excellent games like Lone Survivor, Home and Slender. When I first learned of Montas, a first person horror game in development by the Australian based Organic Humans, I was eager to learn more. I spoke to Garth Robertson, the gentleman behind the project and you can read our conversation soon.

Before that however, you might want to learn a bit more about the game. Embedded below is the latest trailer for Montas - it's currently up on Youtube, meaning it is metered content, but we'll have the trailer up in the videos library later today. Read on after the trailer to learn more about the game itself - like any good horror trailer, Montas’ is light on details and heavy with foreboding atmosphere.

A first person adventure, Montas puts you in the shoes of Joseph Walker - an accountant living in the city of Montas. Suffering from hallucinations and nightmares, Joseph’s problems increase when murders begin occurring and the police get involved. Something is wrong in the city of Montas and it is up to Joseph - and you - to figure it out.

Built in the Unreal Engine, Organic Humans plan to make Montas an even more immersive experience with the use of the Oculus Rift - the upcoming virtual reality headset backed by the likes of John Carmack and Gabe Newell. The lack of a HUD will increase the immersion - instead visual and audio indicators will let the player know when they are injured or in need. And while there is no combat in Montas, it won’t be free from danger - with adversity coming from both entities and the environment itself. As Garth explained to IndieGames:

"If you've seen any of the Final Destination movies you know what I'm talking about. To accompany this high degree of vulnerability, the game will feature a persistent death system, which doesn't force the player to repeat sections of the game due to failure, but changes the direction of the story."

You can learn more about Montas over on the official Welcome To The Opera website - and you can follow Organic Humans on Facebook and Twitter to follow its progress - it definitely looks like one to watch. And watch out for our interview with Garth later today!
