Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes announced
Last night marked a special occasion for Hideo Kojima and Konami - the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear. A Metal Gear Solid movie was announced - albeit with few details apart from the backers - Hideo Kojima (of course) and the man behind two decades of Marvel films Avi Arad will be producers and Columbia Pictures are backing the film. Also announced was Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops - a smartphone game with card-based battle and a motherbase similar to Peace Walker, developed in Unity by Japanese mobile conglomerate GREE.
But those two items were merely the tricks of Professional Troll Hideo Kojima, lulling us into feeling embarrassed for Konami and Kojima Productions before dropping the H-bomb of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes on us (presumably accompanied with a 20 minute speech about how nuclear weapons are bad.) Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes continues the tradition of ridiculously stupid names, but the concept is tight - an open world Metal Gear Solid.
Kojima is remaining very tight lipped about it at the moment, but GameSpot were lucky enough to be in attendance. Built on Kojima Productions new Fox Engine, the 20 minute demo showed 'Snake' (though it is presumably Big Boss considering the Militaires Sans Frontieres logo) traversing a massive military installation - and while stealth will still be a big part of it, you will also have a much wider range of choices available to you - including driving and calling for a chopper ride. Kojima said of Ground Zeroes that he didn't want being spotted to mean a Game Over - instead you can use your wits and tools to escape. In other words, it sounds awesome. What do you think, are you excited for Ground Zeroes, or are you all Metal Geared out? Let us know in the comments below!
