Bethesda doesn't pull plug on Prey 2

A new rumour has been floating about the internet today, after Peter Hines of Bethesda did an interview with IGN NL. Discussing Prey 2, the sequel to 2006's FPS which our man kozeeii had hands on with back in April 2011, Bethesda's Vice President of PR and Marketing was quoted saying (translated from Dutch):

"I can be very clear about this. At one point, we looked at Prey 2 and decided that in its current state, with all the money, time, and resources we put into it, it didn’t meet our expectations. So we decided to pull the plug from our end"

Which is sad news for everyone - Prey 2 looks fantastic. However, after the interview went live Hines took to Twitter to clarify that he in fact did not say that Bethesda had pulled the plug on Prey 2:

To clarify, I didn't say Prey 2 was canx. Gave an interview in English, translated to Dutch, translated back to English. #LostInTranslation

Currently Hines hasn't said exactly what it was he did say that resulted in such an extraordinary misunderstanding, but he has said it was just what was said before - Prey 2 will not be coming out this year. As long as it's still coming out though, I think everyone will still be happy. We are currently attempting to get in touch with Human Head for their perspective and we'll update the story if we learn anything new.

Less money, time and effort into cinematic trailers and more money, time and effort into actual game development.

Will be interesting to see how this is clarified - are they going to tender off Prey 2 possibly the dev company? Place the financial burden on the dev company in an effort to produce results? The bulk of existing Prey 2's development scrapped and a fresh new start to take place?

Perhaps he is just looking back at the re-evaluation of Prey 2's development and what he said was a retrospection - we looked at Prey 2, it was not good enough then so we killed its launch in favour of continued development. I'd say this is the most favourable scenario.

Then again maybe this is all some well constructed marketing ploy to bring Prey 2 back into the limelight.
