Vigil hoping to fix Darksiders 2 PC port
Darksiders 2's PC release is something of a shambles. While it runs excellently on my PC, others have reported problems ranging from insane amounts of tearing and no vsync, to the game straight up not working on their computer. And even when it runs flawlessly, the PC version of Darksiders 2 has a lot of flaws. Death's character model in the inventory menu is hilariously low-res, the map and inventory sometimes present nothing but a black screen and on the Map screen it tells you (when you have a Xbox 360 controller plugged in as I do) to press A for the overworld map, when in fact you have to press the left analogue stick in - a truly amazing error in what is supposed to be a AAA title.
Speaking on the THQ forums about the debacle, THQ's Community Manager Mathew Everett explained that prior to the release of the game, they were under the impression it would in fact have an editable config file and that the PC version of Darksiders 2 would in fact be the best version available - and that the developers were looking at implementing better PC support in an upcoming patch: During the Community Summit both Jay Fitzloff and I (Mathew Everett) were under the impression that full .config files and final keyboard/mouse and controller hookups were going to work as promised when the PC version of the game launched. That was the plan at the time from a specifications perspective. Unfortunately, especially at the end of the development cycle, sometimes things change at the last minute, and this was one of them. This puts us in an uncomfortable spot as we were acting on the best information we had at the time, and it has turned out not to be in the final game (at this point). Since it was always the intention to implement these features, as I type this, the development team is checking to see what items can get added into the game. While I can’t promise what can be done, I can promise we are working with the proper teams and have expressed the importance of including them in a patch. Here's hoping that patch is coming soon then. I've been having a lot of fun with Darksiders 2, but I know how awful it is to eagerly await a game only to find out it won't run - as I primarily play on PC it's an unfortunately common occurrence. Have you played Darksiders 2 yet? What system did you play it on and what (if any) issues did you come across? Let us know in the comments below! |
