New Super Mario Bros. 2 jumps into retail stores and onto the 3DS eShop

We don't talk about Nintendo a whole lot here on GameArena, which I think is a bit of a shame. Today seems like an excellent time to change that, given the Nintendo 3DS today did something it has never done in Australia before. The latest Mario Bros. game has been available in stores for the past week and it is now also available in the 3DS' eShop - making the first retail title to make its way onto the handheld's digital marketplace. Unfortunately, the arrival doesn't come without a substantial cost - New Super Mario Bros. 2 will set you back $69.95 on the eShop, as opposed to the 55 odd dollars you'd spend picking up a retail copy.

$69.95 is the recommended retail price however and it seems Nintendo - like Sony and Microsoft - apparently believe not upsetting retail chains is better business than reducing prices on a less substantial version of a product. I guess that's their prerogative? In other, better eShop news, you can now also get your hands on the GameBoy version of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon - an incredibly difficult but fun game, if not as awesome as its Nintendo 64 counterpart.

Are you picking up NSMB2, or have you already? I'm kind of wishing for a reason to put my DS away (I picked up FFT:A2 for about $15 during the last EB sale and have been playing it again non-stop) and play my 3DS again, but NSMB2 doesn't seem like my bag.
