DayZ going stand alone

Last night, Dean "Rocket" Hall announced that Day Z - the incredibly, ridiculously popular persistent world mod for Arma 2 that might be my favourite game... ever - will become its own game, built alongside the mod by Bohemia Interactive, with Hall at the lead. Rocket announced it in a post on the new official site for the stand alone version - and while it is currently fairly empty, updates are promised soon.

The game is being developed under what Hall calls 'the Minecraft model' - in other words, you can pay a discounted price before the game is finished, which gives you access to the alpha and beta builds along with the full game upon completion. If you recall, GameArena revealed this to be the plan way back in June - because we were ground floor on this stuff. No word yet on how much it will cost exactly, but can you really put a price on being terrified of fellow human beings and watching zombies run about in circles on all fours? No. You can not.

Mod development will continue, as pointed out in the announcement post,

Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.

The stand alone game announcement follows on from some other excellent news about the mod yesterday, which has passed 1 million unique players since its debut only four months ago. This is a stark rise from its count 1 month ago, where it was bustling around the half million mark - no doubt the recent Summer sale on Steam had something to do with it and because of the mod's success ARMA 2 Combined Operations has been in the top ten selling games for the past three months.

These are great achievements for the New Zealand born Hall, a talented and dedicated developer who has put a lot of effort into the project. GameArena has started a DayZ Vodcast called the Day Zed Show - you can watch the second episode here, and if you're after more DayZ mod footage be sure to watch Abzolutely Fabulouz.

If it comes out before December I can give it Game of the Year. That's all I really want. That's all anybody really wants, isn't it?

I'm actually pissed off. I bought Arma 2 for no reason now. Knew I should've waited.

Any word on the single player? Or do I still have to put up with the general community killing something beautiful? :(

Squid I know you are trolling me but I will bite anyway. No word. I've lined up an interview at Gamescom so I'll let you know.

I'm not EXACTLY trolling you, cos the primary question is valid and my point of interest... It's just the additional information that's utterly needless and hurtful. I don't know why I did it... I still love you.

As "American Idol's" ratings continue to freefall (Wednesday night, it hit a Snapback Caps), and controversial judge New Era Snapbacks continues to bear most of the public blame, Snapbacks Hats sadly isn't doing much to help "Idol's" tarnished tabloid image. On Thursday morning, Her Snapbacks For Sale took to her very unfiltered Twitter page, and she often does, to reignite her feud with co-star Snapback Bulls.
It wasn't pretty. Or professional.

Ymcmb snapback was responding to a tweet posted by gossip blogger Perez Hilton, which read: "Mariah Carey BURNS Nicki Minaj On Idol For Lack Of #1 Songs!" Perez's tweet linked to an article that mentioned a snarky remark Mariah had made during Wednesday's "Idol" broadcast (when Obey snapbackhad pointed out Raiders Snapback, presumably comparing her Billboard chart track record to Supreme snapback).
It was a blatant baiting move on Perez's part--but unfortunately, Nicki took the bait. And that's putting it mildly. Cheap Snapback Hats rapid-fired back at Perez, Snapback Caps him: "What u SHOULD be doing (wit your messy a**) is asking why a woman SO successful at her age, is still so INSECURE, and bitter."
Ohnoshedidn't. But oh yes, she did. And there was more. NBA Snapback Hats then Wholesale Snapbacks: "Bwaha! Burn? Shes sad i tied her record for Hot 100 entries in only 3 years of being in the game. Yep, a black female rapper."
And then Nicki Cheap Snapbacksher latest epic Twitter rant with: "All dem #1s but JLo phone ringin?--referring to Obey Snapback that "Idol" producers had attempted to bring back former judge Jennifer Lopez as NFL Snapback Hatsemergency mid-season replacement (and in the process, sort of confirming those rumors).
"I guess having a personality, being a secure woman, and giving genuine critique still trumps that," MLB Snapback Hats said.
Snapbacks Hatsj, if you're reading this--or if you're reading the tweet that will soon link to this article right here--please stop. Just stop. I've tried to defend you. When your haters said you didn't know what you were talking about, I raved about your candor and NFL Snapbacks When your haters said you were the reason for "Idol's" ratings decline, I cited NBA Snapbacks. When rumors circulated that you wouldn't be coming back for "Idol" Season 13, I helpfully recommended you for Ymcmb Snapback . But now you're making Supreme Snapback and insulting one of the greatest pop divas of all time on Twitter--all within 24 hours. And that's not cool. There are only five more "Idol" Season 12 episodes left, and they may be your last. Please, don't let the season end this way--the ugly way in which Cheap Snapback Hats.
Wholesale Snapback Hats Carey has yet to address New Era Snapback Hatsremarks, on Twitter or otherwise--but she is not blameless in this incident either, and tonight's "Idol" results show could be a doozy. Watch this space.
