The War Z announced - MMO Zombie Action

The War Z doesn't seem to be too much like Day Z, but it has zombies, a survival theme and a dude in a cap in its screenshots so the comparisons are obvious. Under development by a new indie studio - Hammerpoint Interactive - The War Z has been worked on for the past year, with the developers hoping to begin a closed beta in the 'very near future' and the full release scheduled for fall (spring here) 2012.

The War Z will have two different modes, normal and hardcore - with the primary difference being that hardcore mode comes with Perma-death. The game will have a variety of other features as well like maps ranging between 200 and 400 kilometres in size and a slew of things I didn't even know were features before I read their press release. Safe areas where players can visit and not fear for their lives? A meld of PVE and PVP? How exciting!

The War Z will be following a slightly different take on the standard MMO model however - Once you've purchased the game you'll be free to play it without subscription - and you'll be able to play on both public and private servers. It should be interesting to see how things go with this title once it hits - if you'd like to register your interest in the closed beta you can do so at the official site. I read about this last week. Good to see GameArena at the forefront of gaming news yet again.

It's a slow news day or I wouldn't have let him post about this pretender to the throne at all Audi.

Interesting concept... Six months ago, before DayZ.

I bet these guys are spewing that DayZ has stolen all of their thunder. The only way I see them coming close to the success of it is if the engine actually scales for older machines, rather than ARMA 2's "Ha, didn't buy a top of the line PC four years after we put this game out? Enjoy fifteen metres of view distance and textures that look like they were fingerpainted by retarded children!"

Trading system and only perma death if we choose so? Huh! I just spent two hours in a tower being sniped at after a rescue mission with five friends, we ended up throwing a smoke grenade, calling in a favour with a friend from a ATV and escorting everyone out to safety in the woods with sniper shots ringing in our ears, one of us even got hit. I really doubt this can give me this experience. Before we got out I got sniped while bandaging a comrade, I stayed with him until he was down to safety before bandaging myself. The sniper was very far away, the only reason I survived. Later on he did the same thing for me, risking his own gear. Also, I only knew two of these players IRL and we all had valuable gear to lose.

ignoring all the other stuff, well ok everything. That looks like Cryengine 3, a much more stable, scalable, non-bastardized engine to work with.

Is it going to be MMO style with the equipment? Like, will I have to team up with 5 friends and brave the fight against the super zombie at the end of the level in order to get a blue gun drop from him??...

Given that they have apparently been developing their game since before DayZ came out, the fact that their media release looks shockingly like DayZ makes it almost look as though they're shamelessly piggy-backing on its popularity.
