Final Fantasy VII confirmed for PC re-release
Last month some tricky Google work deciphered Square-Enix's plans to re-release Final Fantasy VII on the PC - and when I say re-release on the PC, I mean re-release of the PC version, given that it has been available on the PC now for like 14 years. Today however, Square-Enix confirmed the leaked information, saying that the game is 'coming soon' and will - much to some people's dismay - be available exclusively through the Square-Enix Store.
The re-release comes with achievements (woo), cloud saves and a 'Character Booster' which will allow you to max out your HP, MP and Gil - basically a cheat, but one that will come in handy when you are trying to master level your materia or breed the illustrious Gold Chocobo. True secret shame - I have never bred a Gold Chocobo. My whole life is a lie. The real question I want answered however, is whether the game will new version will be compatible with the variety of mods created for the original PC release. Here's hoping the answer is 'yes' - but the inclusion of achievements and cloud saves might mean otherwise. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer Square-Enix have put out for the new version embedded below or in our videos library - going full screen for HD of those glorious, glorious 15 year old graphics. I am tempted to grab it just for an excuse to play it again, but I hardly care about achievements in the first place, let alone achievements not tied to my Steam or Xbox Live account. How about you? Will you be grabbing Final Fantasy VII for the PC, or are you going to head to eBay and get FFVIII instead? Let us know in the comments below!
