Crysis 3 coming in 2013
While Crysis 3 was a given before Crysis 2 was released, details were unknown until now, as EA have announced that the FPS will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. A flub accidentally listed the game on Origin last week, but back then details were little more than 'Crysis 3 is coming out at some point' - now EA have announced some info about the game.
Set in New York once again, this time the city has been encased inside one of the Cell Corporation's Nanodomes - which they claim to have set up to isolate the alien Ceph. Because of the dome, the city has been transformed, filled with plant life growing amidst the buildings and once bustling streets - there are apparently seven distinct environments known as The Seven Wonders which will feature in the game. The character plays Prophet (as you might expect) who finds out that the Nanodomes are not so much helpful containment areas as they are part of a plot for world domination. He then sets about on a vengeance fueled spree against the Cell Corporation, corrupt megalomaniacs that they are. EA followed things up with an explanation of a digital download pre-order which is now available. Called the Hunter Edition, it gives players early access to the sweet ass bow you can see in the above screenshot - although while I don't know much about Crysis 3, what I do know of arrows and giant robots tells me he is wasting both time and ammunition. You also get the Hunter Nanosuit module, which will give you extra power and functionality apparently. I don't know, just look at the picture. That's awesome. EA also announced several special editions that will be available for pre-order 'at selected retailers.' There are three in total - the Stalker Pack, the Overkill Pack and the Predator Pack. All three contain the bonuses featured in the Hunter Edition, plus they also come with their own special multiplayer bonuses. The Predator pack gives you early access to a sub-machine gun and exclusive camo and the Overkill pack gives you access to the Typhoon assault weapon, which seems to be some sort of heavy machine gun. The Stalker pack is confusingly 'for players who like to stalk their prey from the shadows' and it gives you early access to a semi-automatic shotgun. What? That's crazy you say? Oh, it's a shotgun with a silencer, so there. Just look at the picture again. That's like Turok and Spawn had a baby, a baby without a cape and hopefully without a depressing descent into mediocrity. What do you think, are you excited for a new Crysis? I'm definitely glad it's returning to greener environments, stealth is just more fun that way.
