JB Hi-Fi no longer stocking the 3G PS Vita
Yes, JB Hi-Fi are no longer stocking the 3G model of the PlayStation Vita, and will instead be selling the WiFi version only when the console hits shelves on the 23rd of February.
As first reported by Kotaku Australia, people who have pre-ordered the 3G model have been sent an email from JB Hi_Fi explaining that their orders have been cancelled - and directing them to the WiFi model instead. The reason behind the cancellation? JB Hi-Fi is a Telstra Dealer, and what with Sony naming Vodafone as the the PlayStation Vita's preferred 3G partner, it would break JB Hi-Fi and Telstra's agreement if they stocked the 3G models.
While the unlocked nature of the PlayStation Vita means you the customer can just as easily throw away the Vodafone sim and use a Telstra sim card (or any other sim card of course) the legal and logistical problems this would mean for JB Hi-Fi are no doubt more trouble than they are worth. Of course, considering the 3G model costs an extra hundred dollars on top of the three hundred and fifty you'll pay for the WiFi only model, it seems probable most people won't care. I will though. How am I supposed to tweet 'lol! nathan drake fell down and he can't get up' on the bus without 3G?
