Blizzard announces Diablo III releasing in early 2012
If you were looking forward to Diabling before this year was out, Blizzard has some sad news for you - Diablo III has been pushed back to early 2012. In the usual Blizzard fashion they have not announced a specific date so as to not release an unfinished product.
Announced on the Diablo III blog today by Mike Morhaime, the release has been pushed back to make sure it has all of the polish it needs: While this news might not be a complete surprise, I know that many of you were hopeful that Diablo III would ship this year. We were too. However, this week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not. Ultimately, we feel that to deliver an awesome Diablo sequel that lives up to our expectations and yours as well, we should take a little more time and add further polish to a few different elements of the game. The Blizzard president goes on to mention the good news which comes out of the pushed back release - the Diablo III beta will be running for longer and more people will be invited to join in and help out. If you haven't opted in for the beta before, you can do so by accessing the Account Management section of your Battle.net account, going to Games & Codes and selecting the Beta Profile Settings. If you're reading this Blizzard, I opted in ages ago and all I got in return was a stream of tears down my face. It was like my eleventh birthday all over again except you're not my grandpa.
