With the launch of the final Brink Developer Diary today we figured it would be easier for people to catch up on the insightful video series if we put all five in the one convenient location.

The first video discusses the story of Brink - the why of The Ark.
Diary 1 - The Last Stand

The second looks at the new movement system developed for the game, S.M.A.R.T..
Diary 2 - The Dawn of S.M.A.R.T.

Number three looks at shifting paradigms and utilising buzzwords... actually, it examines how the team wanted to mash-up genres for the game.
Diary 3 - The End of Genre as we know it

Four takes on Splash Damage's art direction in Brink.
Diary 4 - Endless Horizon

And the last one delves into the thinking and process behind Brink - from concept to game.
Diary 5 - Minds on the brink

Splash Damage's Brink is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated, and Dev Diaries are always great for insight into the development team's thinking - even with what you know is a lot of PR spin, the videos all ring true to me. Sadly Brink still isn't due out until Autumn next year - for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

At a glance, this seems like an unimpressive FPS, but I'm on a busted-arse PC with no sound and a video card that is, in reality, hot buttered toast... So can someone fill me in on what validates their claim of this being "The End of the Genre as we know it"?

"shifting paradigms and utilising buzzwords' I think sums it up nicely.

watch the second video "smart" smooth movement across rigid terrain" its a button (or key for pc) that allows u to vault parkour style across the level seamlessly. its actually quite interesting. but aiming ( looks like a console video) looks retarded, so id like to see some pc footage to see mouse aiming. otherwise pretty excited about this game, hope it doesnt flop like etqw (same developer = splash damage, also et wolf,)

I saw that, but all I saw was a "Shifted Paradigm" for "Context senstive key that jumps, only with a small animation. When context is lacking, the same key slides along the ground instead"... It's "Buzzword" was "S.M.A.R.T".

I'm happy to be wrong. Heck, I'd love something new and entertaining and I don't have any reason to dislike the game or the game maker, it just doesn't look like anything special. I hope that's not true. :)

The campaign looks like an endless bot match imo. I hope the story actually moves along nicely and doesn't just have you doing things for no logical reason.

The vids of the game in motion I've seen are mighty impressive. Actual game play in an online environment would be a totally different game though I think. It'll live or die by the community that it produces, or doesn't produce.

Okay, I'm serious about this, so don't take it as Troll. I'm not saying: "I can't see what's so great, so you must be wrong!", I'm honestly asking your opinion... Only on the Internet are we forced to point out the difference bewteen insults and interest. ;)

Sly: What did you see that looked impressive? Can you point out a few things that seperates this from other recent FPS for me?

In retrospect, that question is open to anyone, not just Sly. If you're looking at this game and saying: "Wow, that X looked amazing", then please solve for X for me. :)

Those vids are all pretty old now. When E3 was around I did ask why hasn't GA even mentioned its existence when it seemed to be an E3 hit.

Redding - Brink is due our coming autumn...unless they delay it yet again.

Hopefully this will fill the hole in the FPS genre which has really stagnated as of late.
