It's finally official - we just got word that Microsoft's arm-waving family fun device, the Kinect, will cost $199 AUD when it hits Australian shelves. It will come bundled with Kinect Adventures so you've got something to wave at when you bust it from the box.

There will also be a bundle for $449, including the 4GB Slim Kinect Sensor and Kinect Adventures game. David McLean, the big cheese at Xbox Australia said in the press release,

Kinect offers tremendous entertainment value for the whole family and those who are new to video games – with nothing in your hands and no buttons to press. If you can do it in life, you can do it with Kinect.

Does anyone else want them to make a Kinect game where you have to pick up and play a game with a controller? Maybe they could make the Xbox Live Arcade Room a Kinect enabled experience, so I can stand in front of my TV and play games like I was really at an arcade playing games.

Anyway, how do you feel about the price? Too high, too low? Bang on? Kreese discussed analyst's views on the subject yesterday - what do you think?

That sounds like a decent price considering they can continue to make more games for it. Any word of when it goes on sale here?

It will be mildly interesting to see how Kinect and Move perform compared to Wiis sales, but I have no interest in any of them - there just aren't any interesting games at launch, and none in the foreseeable future.

I'd buy one just for the Xbox Live Arcade Room thing I made up above.

"I love the Power Glove. It's so bad!"

Welcome to the "Next Gen" version.

They need to price it way lower to realistically expect it to do even just "OK", otherwise it'll only be "enthusiasts" that bother getting it. If that happens, publishers won't support it.

They may even have been smarter to hold off till the next gen XBox and release it as standard kit on that (hopefully they'll do that regardless of how it sells on this generation of XBox, as it really is an interesting bit of gear).

I think it really needs to be $100 to allow casual gamer interest in the Kinect. But then again, if they're willing to buy Wii's for $300 then I'm pretty sure Kinect will sell well i guess.

I'm holding off on buying one perhaps until that Star Wars game comes out for it.

well with the kinect you still need to buy the console. So unlike people who already own an xbox its not really worth it. And from the games that have been displayed imo they arent that good. eg racing games i rather buy a steering wheel then just imitate holding a wheel.

but again its probably targeted at people who want to have more interaction with the actual games.

All they need is one, preferably two or three, killer apps to sway the "hardcore" amongst us. Unless this is the case I might as well buy 2-3 good new release titles for the same amount.
