Age of Conan update unleashes guild wars
pc
Well, that's what developers Funcom are hoping. The sixth free content update to Age of Conan - "Return of Thoth-Amon" has gone live, and one of the biggest changes made has been around luring more players to think of their guilds:
Anything that the members of that guild do – fighting monsters, fighting other players, crafting items – will generate renown for the guild. Renown points will unlock guild levels, and will for instance allow the guild to decorate their guild city with new buildings, statues and banners, or allow the guild’s members to gain access to exclusive item rewards. Players can view a list of the top ranking guilds on all servers from inside the game as well as through the new guild rankings website available on the community portal.
Nothing says "Welcome to Guild HQ" like a spiked skull MMO developers periodically tinker with the guild mechanic as forming an enduring team is one of the best ways to keep those subscription dollars flowing in. The concept of structuring rewards and recognition in-game for guild feats is something Blizzard are also hoping to tap into with Cataclysm, the next expansion of World of Warcraft. Aside from the guild renown functions, the update unveils its first tier three raid content - Thoth-Amon's Stronghold. The promise: being able to fight alongside Conan himself. Age of Conan from all reports has come a long way from its pretty so-so beginning, where the interesting content hit a wall around level 20. It would be interesting to get some insight from players who are working through end-game on what keeps them coming back. |
