Sega literally just sent word to say Aliens vs Predator has successfully appealed the refused classification of their gory, gory game - with no content changed or removed.
To quote Darren Macbeth, Managing Director, SEGA Australia, It is with great pleasure that we announce the success of our appeal. We are particularly proud that the game will be released in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed whatsoever. This is a big win for Australian gamers. We applaud the Classification Review Board on making a decision that clearly considers the context of the game, and is in line with the modern expectations of reasonable Australians. The game will come out in Australia with an MA15+ rating - we're waiting to get our hands on the actual Review Board paper right now, but you can enjoy this screenshot of what's to come instead!

The violence is fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game, set in a futuristic science-fiction world, inhabited by aliens and predators. This context serves to lessen its impact. The more contentious violence is randomly generated and is not dependent on player selection of specific moves. If only the violence in Left 4 Dead 2 involving the decapitation and dismemberment of zombies was fantastical in nature and justified by the context of the game. Aliens Vs Predator Board Review
