Square Enix has announced the release of both Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 2 in all PAL territories come early next year for the PSP. The release will see both classic NES games in all their high resolution 2D glory.

Square Enix has re-released the English version of both of these games twice now; the PSP version draws on elements of each. Taking the full-motion video sequences from the PlayStation version of Final Fantasy Origins and the bonus dungeons from the Game Boy Advance version Dawn of Souls, the game also adds new dungeons to each game to further increase the replayability.

The system does lend itself well to remakes of old classics, but it would be great to see developers try something new like Konami did with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.

Square Enix has now re-released 6 of their Final Fantasy series on the newer consoles and all of them have been extremely popular. Is a re-release of Final Fantasy VII next? Would people buy FFVII on a handheld console? Or is it a home console only affair?

Would people buy FFVII on a handheld console? Hell, with all the people crazy about FFVII, they'd purchase it even if it were released on the Commodore 64!

Personally, I wouldnt buy FFVII if it was re-released on PS4. I finally finished that game for the first time just this year, after coming within an hour or 3 of finishing it year and years ago, and I do not want to have to deal with that game for at LEAST another 3 or 4 years. But I've been playing F!06 on PS2 happily for the past however long its been out =/. I dunno.

I own a legit copy of Final Fantasy Origins. I bought it from a Video store that was going out of business along with FFIX, FFT and FFVI for a total of $13 for all of them.

And then i went and purchased FFVII for $45.

Wish they would look to the old FF series for inspiration when making a new FF game. FFX+ sucked ass. : ((

I don't think you'll find a Final Fantasy that will ever be that good again. I blame the love story aspect in the newer ones. What was good about FFVII is that it only hinted at romance, I only played number VIII for about 1/2 hour but it was immediately blatant a love story will be involved.

Sure, save the world get the girl is good, but don't over do it. After all, you're meant to get the girl after you save the world.
