You can't have a AAA title without a thematic music score and Assassins Creed looks to be no exception to that rule, Ubisoft today announcing that British Academy Award-winner Jesper Kyd has the task for the upcoming action title.
"We listened to many composers before finding the right person for Assassin's Creed. Jesper Kyd turned out to be the perfect match for the title because he is able to create epic historical pieces fused with both traditional medieval instruments and modern synth sounds," said Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin's Creed. "For Assassin's Creed we wanted the score to capture the gruesome atmosphere of medieval warfare but also be edgy and contemporary. Jesper not only achieved this balance but also underlined the changes in gameplay and pacing in a way that immerses the player even further into the Assassin's Creed experience."
Kyd is perhaps best known for his work on the Hitman series of games, and is also currently tasked with the scores for Kane & Lynch Dead Men and Unreal Tournament 3 - that's a lot of tunes.

+1 The halo 1 and 2 soundtracks are some of my most played car music. Should look into getting halo 3 OST.

Is he doing the music for Kane & Lynch as well?

This game is going to be awesome. I just got a 360, pretty much for this game, Gears of War and Dead Rising (halo 3 to an extent). This will be the first true next gen game imo.

I've noticed something with next gen games which I thought I'd point out. Has anybody noticed that for realism, the model detail is becoming less relevant? I'm finding character animations and environmental physics to be much more important in creating realism in next gen games.

Look at the gameplay videos in this game for example, apparently the main character has something like 10000 animations. Compared to something like halo 3, which does have good graphics, but the characters move like toys. Maybe its just the animator in me coming out or something; even without the awesome animations, this game looks superb!

I agree, but please don't open that kettle of fish, lest we spend the rest of the thread fighting the nay-sayers.

But yes, this game is looking (and sounding) spectacular.

Should look into getting halo 3 OST.

I noticed in Halo 3 there is a lot of reused musical ideas from Halo 1 and 2. If it was just borrowing a motif here and there it would be fine, but some of the tracks sound almost identical, perhaps with slightly different orchestration. I guess I'm saying it's good but it ain't all new.

It still has the Halo 1 monk theme too. But that's okay.

Yep :D
Says so in the article. Can't wait for that either.

Halo OST is one of the most important parts of the game IMO, gives it more unique character. but Kyd's work is unequalled by any game score. Battle for Freedom is an awesome track.

And Kyd didn't recycle any themes for the Hitman soundtracks, the first was dark electronica and then in Blood Money he introduced dark choral/orchestral movements.
