Latest News And Features
It's Indie week this week apparently - and even more specifically, it's indie day today. While there have been a couple of published games released - Dead Island: Riptide and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen specifically - the major action is going down publisher free. Apart from Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, today has also seen the release of three other buzzworthy indie games - Don't Starve, Kairo and Dyad - on Steam.
Edit:As Hotcakes pointed out in the comments, Steam lists Don't Starve as having been released on the 23rd, not today. For whatever reason, it told me and others otherwise. I apologise and hope this hasn't ruined your life.
Don't Starve's many horrifying exotic spider things.

Yes that headline is correct - last night Major Nelson announced that Microsoft's next generation console would be announced at the Xbox campus in Redmond, Washington on May 21st - 26 days from now. The event will be streamed on Xbox Live and Xbox.com, although unfortunately for those of us in Australia, it will be at 3:00 AM EST.
Will there be a new Halo? Your guess is as good as mine!
Of course, if you don't want to stay up until such an ungodly hour and watch the unveiling of the Xbox Entertainment 7wenty you can sleep in and I will, of course, keep you posted with everything Microsoft announces. The things I do for you people. While the event on the 21st will give us the first look at what Microsoft is bringing to the table, they also explained that they would be featuring a swathe of future titles at E3 just 3 weeks later.
So now we come down to some serious business - what's your bet on what the new Xbox will feature? A new Halo? A new Gears of War? Yes, obviously. A feature where everything has ads playing all the time, but if you pay for it you can have slightly smaller ads? You have to have a subscription if you want to even turn on the console, which people will inexplicably attempt to argue in favour of? It straight up actually doesn't play games anymore, just music and tv shows we can't watch in Australia? Maybe. A big sign pointing at me with the words 'Massive Sony Fanboy' in block print? Yes, probably. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!

I woke up this morning to a nice surprise in my inbox - an invitation to the beta for a new game called Gunpoint. A Stealth Puzzle game, in Gunpoint you play the role of a freelance spy with the ability to rewire electrical devices and pants that give him incredible jumping powers - it's even better than it sounds.
Missions kick off with a conversation with your client - who tells you what it is they want you to accomplish - hack into a server, eavesdrop on a conversation, that kind of thing. The conversations follow the standard RPG style dialogue system - you can choose your response from several options, which is where Gunpoint's snappy sense of humour comes into play.
We're pretty excited for Monaco: What's Yours is Mine - the co-op heist game coming soon to PC and Xbox Live Arcade from indie developers Pocketwatch Games. The IGF winning game is still all set to be released on PC tomorrow, but Pocketwatch Games today explained that if you were hoping to play it on Xbox 360 you're going to have to wait a little longer.
The delay was announced over on the Official Facebook Page - while the specifics are sparse, the game has an issue which has compelled Pocketwatch to push it back a little. It shouldn't be too long however, as they have already submitted an update - once the update goes through Microsoft they will know the new release date.
Here's hoping XBLA players don't have to wait until next Wednesday, when Microsoft usually releases new Arcade titles. Joaby and I have already pre-ordered Monaco, how about you? Let us know in the comments below!
When THQ auctioned off their various Intellectual Properties earlier this year, a couple of titles were left over. THQ's biggest properties, like Saints Row and Company of Heroes were quickly snapped up, but others like Darksiders and Red Faction were not.
I'm just going to pretend Red Faction: Armageddon didn't happen.
Until now. In the latest auction, as explained by Kurtzman Carson Consultants, all of THQ's remaining intellectual properties have been sold to various companies - primarily the Nordic Games Group. Nordic are best known for publishing under the labels of DreamCatcher, The Adventure Company and JoWooD.

Shinji Mikami is annoyed at the direction the Survival Horror genre has taken of late. And given that it's basically his genre, he's allowed to be annoyed. He left the Resident Evil series after 4, and since then it has taken things, in his opinion, too far into the realm of Action gaming - removing the Survival and the Horror and replacing them with stacks of kills with big weapons.
Which is why he formed his new company Tango Gameworks - teaming up with Bethesda to release a new Survival Horror game - The Evil Within. The Evil Within follows a detective named Sebastian, who after arriving at the scene of a mass murder is knocked unconscious and transported to a dark and twisted world. Not knowing where he is, he has to try to figure out what is going on and get back to the world he remembers.
You won't get crazy chainguns or bazookas in The Evil Within - you have to make do with knives and pistols. Which really don't look like enough to take on any of the monsters in this game. Watch the trailer embedded below or in our videos library and I think you'll agree. If I had a knife and came across tentacle box face or the many armed blood lady I'd just save everyone some time and jam it into my own neck. Those things are messed up.

If there was one major problem with crowd-funding - apart from the small possibility of fraud - it is time. We are always an eternity away from playing a project and by the time something is finished we may not even remember its start. This doesn't just happen to crowd-funded projects, it happens to every game (or nearly every game - sometimes something will sneak up on even the most alert of us.) But unlike the reveal of most blockbuster titles at E3 or GDC or the like, the wait for new crowd-funded projects can be unbearable.
Risk of Rain. Like I said, it's hectic.
I say most because there are some games for which we all wait with bated breath. It's different for everyone, depending on tastes - I am personally incredibly excited about Thief and Tales of Xillia, as I am a huge fan of Stealth games and JRPGs. While for now I can get my Stealth fix with Dishonored and I can get my JRPG fix with Radiant Historia or Persona 4 Golden, both genres have a limited library of modern titles compared to First Person Shooters or Open World games.
Through crowd-funding however, we are beginning to see a lot more games both experimenting with genres and set in genres which are often passed over. In this week's Funstravaganza we are going to look at games which don't fit neatly into a genre. We'll call it The Funstravagenreza. Nope, no we won't.
Heck yeah folks, Junglist is here with another brilliant episode of the 5 Inch Floppy! This week he is checking out Anomaly 2 - the tower offense sequel to 11 bit Studio's excellent Anomaly: Warzone Earth. Anomaly 2 brings a beautiful art style together with an even more robust feature set than the original game or its mobile spawn Anomaly Korea and also adds in Tower Offense vs. Tower Defense multiplayer to the bargain. So how is it? Watch the video to find out!
You can watch the 5 Inch Floppy embedded below or in our videos library - going full screen for HD of course. And as always, you can get more of your Junglist fix by checking out the 5 Inch Floppy on Facebook and the 5 Inch Floppy Blog and following TheJunglist on Twitter!

High Moon Studios finished a good deal of their Deadpool work last month, resulting in layoffs - and now it appears the staff who stayed on are close to being finished their work, as Activision and High Moon Studios today announced the release date for Deadpool's video game - June 25th.
Deadpool will be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and the pre-order bonuses have been announced by the man himself in a press release:
