The new layouts on GA really arent working. Most of them are biased, and its making us all rage. I was just in a game of ATCS where the map was re-voted 6 times to get the default layout ;/. Can they be taken out of general rotation, and be made vote-only or something?

Oh god yes, please, most of the layouts are pritty stoopy to be honest

The atcs one is the worst of them, placing anyone into the middle bunker will make that team camp as the other sits out the front, waiting. Doesn't make for a gg :(

I do like the layout setup on Arachnid2, it's a big map and the two bases are far apart. Moving bases is still applicable on the map, unlike on the atcs layout.

Also, tremulous is such a great game because it isn't purely a first person shooter, there is an element of strategy in how you set up your base. To take away the initial setting up of bases takes away a lot of the strategy involved in the game. Base-building is probably the only way a team can defeat another more experienced than they are.

Optional layouts, sure. I do like the idea of calling a map as well as the layout in the same vote.

Soo.. please take out these new layouts and possibly have them able to be callvoted for. Thank you, Del.

Bases are never intended to remain constant, every single one of them even the defaults are not put in the optimal position. The idea is to have someone building straight away, not to all rush out and kill each other, there's no strategy in that. I have tweaked a few of them to hopefully improve the layouts so that they are not over-run too quickly.

Additionally I don't really apologies for the atcs layouts I know it's a favorite map I don't know why. Especially when there are many other really good maps available too. Trem is getting cosy and comfortable with the default bases too predictable. Call this my way of helping the players think of different strategies to play that same map, which is the intention. Same map, different gameplay. Or as I like to think about it "A change is as good as a holiday". The tremulous community on GA refuses to download new clients that will download maps at a faster rate and therefore new maps in the rotation do not work to provide variety. Old players get sick to death of playing the same maps over and over again. maybe I should just have one server with just default ATCS, would you like that?

Regarding vote-able layouts I don't know if there is a way to do this.

Apart from this I will take pointers on how to improve the existing layouts, but remember these days people rush out to kill each other and forget the bases altogether. I will not make the default bases bullet proof, why do you think the RC in one of the Tremor layouts is right out in the open.

ATCS IS out of the general rotation sorry, and therefore so are the layouts

wait WHAT. Yes, ATCS may be played a lot more than the rest of the maps but this is merely because it is the smallest map; smaller map = more shooting aliens and less running around trying to find each other.

Bigger and less played maps are a lot of fun to play, but only when there are a suitable amount of people to play on them. For example, Nexus6 is a really fun map to play, but not when you only have 6 people in the server. You can't argue that GA is constantly highly populated. As I'm writing this, GA currently has 7 people playing and guess what map it is; ATCS.

I'm not against new and fresh build layouts, but i AM against stupid layouts. And the layouts in ATCS are just that. A base that forces a team to camp inside a bunker is not a clever move.

And honestly, I can't think of a person I've talked to that has liked the new layouts. The majority of the gamearena community in tremulous are against these layouts, that alone is a solid enough reason to change them back.

I have tried to fix them a little, but I have noticed that an old layout popped back up from somewhere. We will see what happens tomorrow.

And there are 4 new maps which are small, tranc3 and stce are great little maps, equally as small at atcs or smaller. Will anyone play those?

tranc3 is awesome!! Urban is pretty good too. not a fan of the other two.

But trance is way cool! I think it was the most played map last night :P felt like it anyways

lolol he kept voting for it, and now i know why :0. But yer cool map.

Oh, and id like to point out that the old maps, ala ATCS, are not only popular due to size; fact is, they are quite BALANCED, which makes for the best games. just a thought from the nub over here :D

Yes I know why ATCS is popular which is why I purposefully looked for small maps that were balanced. stcs and nano while not perfect are both quite small, certainly a change from ATCS.
