Hey Guys,
Was just inquiring about the GA Fortress Forever server (HL2 mod)
Can you guys please appoint an admin from one of the regular players (I myself am happy to do so) or incorporate the plugin that allows users to vote on player kicks/map changes etc. Also get some more of the popular maps you would find on most other servers?
I know the Aussie player base isnt as big for this mod as some others (most aussies play on american servers because this server always dies on bad maps or when other players misbehave), but since you have the server, i would assume its best to make the most of it.
Cheers,
M*A*S*H

We're not normally in the practice of appointing admins for a single server for a very little played mod.
We normally take care of any requests ourselves.
You're free to give us some links to maps we could put on there, and to suggest a map rotation you think would work well.

OK thanks, well firstly the server needs updating from 2.40 to version 2.41 (Client and Server) Patch found here >>> http://www.fortress-forever.com/
A Map voting plugin would be good as well. I can find you link, but i don't know what GA's policy on plugins is?
Suggested Map Rotation:
ff_aardvark
ff_dm
ff_dustbowel
ff_monkey
ff_r123
ff_dropdown
ff_xpress_b1
ff_congestus
ff_well
ff_wcrats_b3
ff_hunted
ff_2fort
I can email or upload these maps, just let me know.

Sorry MASH. I'll try to get this done on Monday or Tuesday. It'll be a good excuse for me to install the mod and have a play myself.

Thanks Malthius, if you need links to any of the maps (alot of them are default) let me know. Alternatively i can email them to you if need be.
Also a voting plugin would be great, (ie. its no fun playing a 30 player map with 2 people). With 'rtv' and 'nominate' options. Again i can source this if need be.
Cheers

If you can find a voting plugin you like quickly, let me know, but I suspect the first thing I'll do is get the maps sorted (as a priority) then look at the voting plugin later - HL2 engine plugins scare me

A quick scan of FF forums returns SourceMod http://www.sourcemod.net/.
All that is really required tho is RockTheVote AKA RTV and the ability to nominate maps is always good.
Details on setting it up are here: http://forums.fortress-forever.com/show ... ote+plugin. Looks like you just install it then copy across the RTV plugin file from addons/sourcemod/plugins/disabled to addons/sourcemod/plugins or something like that...

I've updated the server to the latest patch and made that maplist the default, can you tell me if it worked?

update seemed to work, but jsut joined and map seems to be the "ff_hunted"
So i am guessing the map list didn't work? I think you just edit maplist.txt with the above maps, but i may be wrong...

it was better, but there was still a few random maps like ff_tiger, and no custom maps while i was playing also ff_dm, could prolly be scrapped from the list... is there any way you can give me ftp access to the ff server folder for a day so i can set it all up? I played for about 3 hours last night on the server and player count ranged from 2-8 with average of about 4, most of which were aussie and NZ players Simple things like map time taken down to 20 mins, fixed map rotation, rtv, custom maps and a few other settings tweaks wouldnt go astray, which i am happy to do. This would only increase the player count for this great mod

Too many contracts to sign before we could give you any access, and even our GameOps can't actually touch the files on the hosts. I'm on leave today and tomorrow, I'll hit this up again on Thursday. Between us we'll get it tweaked up nicely.

Cool thanks, i posted a message on the FF forums asking for some good cfg files and the best plugin to use. In the mean time, a better custom map list would be: Default: ff_aardvark Default: ff_dustbowl Default: ff_monkey Default: ff_well Default: ff_2fort Default: ff_shutdown2 Custom: ff_r123 Found at: http://anticollectivism.com/ff_r123.rarCustom: ff_xpress_b1 Found at: http://www.ozfortress.com/maps/FF/ff_xpress_b1

Setup that maplist except for the custom maps, which I'm scared of.

thanks for that The maps just go in the following folders, so: the contents of ff_r123.rar go into into the fortress forever folder (its already set up to be in the right folders - maps and materials - both located in the ff folder) the contents of ff_xpress_b1.zip go straight into the maps folder of the fortress forever folder Hope that helps EDIT: Just joined before and there still seems to be other maps such as ff_dm on the cycle. Also a few people wanted to change the map, and also because there is no admin, and no 'rtv' plugin, then this can't happen and we had to wait the full 25 mins. Another issue was the command for auto team limit. Both maps i just played were about 5vs2 just because there is no team balance on. Once i get a new server.cfg to you, this issue (and some others)should be addressed

I've just fixed the map list, so it should only have the 6 or so posted earlier.
Team difference is set to 1, which means no team should have 2 more than the other.

Thanks for that Freewheelin, any chance to add those two custom maps? I got in contact with someone who runs most of the european servers, he said he will give me some advice on the correct plugin/settings So I will report back with those when i get a chance.

ok, So you will need to install MetaMod. Then SourceModDon't know the exact files, cos im not sure if u guys are running windows or linux servers. RTV is part of sourcemod, so all you need to do is install sourcemod and it should work. Also if you could add those two custom maps (i added instructions/links above) that would be great... Really wish i could just FTP the fortress forever server folder...this is taking ages... (but i do appreciate the fact you guys are super busy).
