Below is most of the information needed to play in the mohaa ladder.

Also included is information on the anticheat. And server policies.

Please note that all of the gameops are here as volunteers. If you message an op and they dont reply straight away, remember that we have lives also. If you know we are there and you think we are ignoring you, it just maybe that we stepped away or we are helping someone else at the same time.

Contents:

Section 1: Server Policy
Section 2: Anti Cheat.
Section 3: Cheat/Hax accusations
Section 4: Attention Refs.
Section 5: Reporting Team killers.

Section 1: Server Policy
***********************

There seems to be some confusion about what is and what isn't regarded as against the rules on our servers.

While most of this should be common sense, it seems it is necessary to spell out some of things that may get you banned from playing here.

Team Killing:

Purposeful team killing will not be tolerated on these servers. We are fully aware that mistakes happen, but we are not prepared to believe they happen 9 times in a row. Team killers will be banned for a duration to be determined by the Ops. That ban may range from 24 hours to forever depending on severity of the offence and instances of repeat offenders. Deliberately hurting your own team mates also falls under this category.

Map Glitches:

Taking advantage of map glitches in any way is against the rules. This includes finding ways under the map or behind walls not normally accessible to all players. In general, killing another player from a location where you either cannot be shot or cannot be normally seen is considered glitching and will get you banned.

Radio Spam:

Abusing the comm system either by repeated and sustained spam of chat or voice commands and/or general abuse during in game chat is against the rules. Offenders may or may not receive a warning before being kicked from the server, repeat offenders will be banned.

Inappropriate Names and/or Tag Stealing:

Please use common sense when choosing a name on our servers. Inappropriate names containing swear words, racial or sexual slurs or even cheat accusations will not be allowed. Using the tags of a clan for which you are not a member is also frowned upon. Do not be surprised if you are asked to change your name or kicked automatically by our software.

Impersonating:

Impersonating well known players in our community is considered poor form and players doing so may be asked to change their names. Impersonating a GameOp either in name or in action will earn an instant ban.

Cheating:

Cheating in any fashion and under any circumstances will be dealt with quickly and severely. This includes, but is not limited to, walhacks, aimbots, no-fog and anti-recoil. All offenders will be banned instantly from all servers and said ban may remain in effect indefinitely.

General Banning Policy:

Please note, we ARE NOT required to give warnings before kicking or banning people from chat, forums or game servers. We do so only as a courtesy and not in all circumstances. For those of you who are, right now, scrambling for the T&C, you will note the words Action we may take.

The duration of bans are also solely at our discretion and will usually be determined by consultation with the other Ops. Accusing Ops of being out to get you or trying to play one Op against another is pointless and will not help your cause as we discuss most situations that arise.

Ignorance of the rules is also no excuse and we do not accept "I didn't know..." as a valid reason not to enforce these rules.

These rules are in place to help us provide a pleasant gaming experience, as free of abuse and cheating as we can possibly manage. You can do your part by being aware of them and abiding by them.

Remember that the Ops are volunteers who give up their time to help you play on these servers.

If you wish to report a player who is not following the rules:

http://games.bigpond.com/pc/services/in ... ion=report

If you would like to request that a ban on you be lifted:

http://games.bigpond.com/pc/services/in ... n=complain

Pleasant gaming :)

Section 2: Anti Cheat.
**********************

The Anticheat on server is called DMW.
The current homepage for this is.

http://www.dmwworld.com

You need to download the latest client if you want to play on the GameArena Servers.

More help can be found either in cogs or on the dmw forums.

This will kick you for any files that arent allowed. Currently only maps are allowed. Which means no blood mods/skins/scopes can be used with this anticheat.

A list of the currently accepted maps can be found here.

Section 3: Cheat/Hax accusations
**********************************

The recent rise in accusations of cheating or 'haxing' need to stop right now. You may just think saying "OMG HAX" when you die in the anti cheat server is all in good fun. But it isn't. Anti cheat or no anti cheat those accusations will still get you banned whether you meant it or not.
I receive complaints daily from people who are being called cheats and im sick of it pharken.

SO! I and the other ops will now be banning players on the spot for such accusations whether they be light hearted or not.

Please dont bother telling me to "Look at my own clan" aswell because i have already informed certain members of SC who repeatidly do this that they will be banned instantly should we see it again.

Just to make things clear.
Accuse someone of cheating
BZZZT!
Ban...
Most likely for between 24 hours to 2 weeks.

Section 7 -7 of the T&C's states
"Falsely accuse other players of cheating for the purpose of discrediting an innocent player
Action we may take:
First two times: warnings to immediately cease the prohibited behaviour.
Third time: a kick and a 2-week ban from all GameArena multiplayer games servers.
Any further breaches: 2-week to permanent ban from all GameArena multiplayer games servers; exact duration of ban to be determined by GameArena staff at their absolute discretion."
http://games.bigpond.com/pc/support/tandc.php

Also, the rise in abuse will receive similar punishments.
This behaviour is not acceptible and i am surprised at the players that are doing it.

Section 4: Attention Refs.
**************************

Rules, Proceedures, and what to do if X happens.
*****************************************
This is bascially a clarification of what we would like you guys as Ref's to do. We as Gameops really apreciate the work you guys put in. We could not function without you.

Contents
1. Running the match - Suggested proceedure.
2. What you should do - abuse and nusence players
3. What you cant do - Things refs have done in the past
4. Hints & Tips - things to help you guys out
5. Gentlemens agreements -weapons and strats-

1. Running the match - Suggested proceedure.
****************
When both teams have their players in you must get both teams to say they are "Ready"
rcon say "If both teams are ready this match can begin"
TeamA: Yes We're ready
TeamB: We're ready to

If a team says they are not ready you need to inform them how much approx time is left before they forfeit.
What i mean by that is, teams have 20mins from the time the server is online to get ready. Any longer and that team forfeits.
You can spare a couple of mins if a player just dropped out at the wrong time, or something like that and your waiting on a reconnect.

Once the teams are ready you begin the practice rounds.
rcon say PRactice rounds will begin on restart
rcon say practice 1/2

After the 2 practice rounds are finnished you anounce the start of the first half. You must make this very clear. Simply spam it.

rcon say After restart the first half will begin
rcon say After restart the first half will begin
rcon say After restart the first half will begin
rcon say After restart the first half will begin
rcon say After restart the first half will begin

I'd suggest 3 times min.
Then restart the match
rcon restart
and anounce the round number a couple of times
rcon say Round 1/4
rcon say Round 1/4
and do this for each corresponding round

Once you read the end of the first half. Teams need to swap sides. Most clans will do this straight away as they already know. But you need to inform them anyway
rcon say Swap sides
rcon say Swap sides

Any player who refuses to swap sides is to be kicked after 2 warnings when the second half begins (Only when the official rounds begin, and yes even if they are AFK)

Teams are entitled to a 2 min break.
rcon say Teams may take a 2 minute break or we can start the practice rounds now
rcon say Teams may take a 2 minute break or we can start the practice rounds now

Just count the minutes on the game clock.
Once thats over
rcon say Practice rounds will begin on restart
rcon say practice 1/2

Then its just the same as the first half.
rcon say After restart the first half will begin
rcon say Round 1/4

It would be good if you could anounce the score once in a while, but its not mandatory. I sometimes lose track of the score, so rather than broadcast the wrong score, just keep my mouth shut :)

2. What you should do - abuse and nuisence players
*******************************************
At no time is abusiveness tolerated in a ladder match. From players or Ref's. As a ref you need to remain calm and polite. I've found as my time as a Gameop, that the more polite you are in an argument the better you come out. The other person will run out of things to abuse you over, and its hard to stay angry at someone who is so nice to you. Its hard to do at times, but is worth it in the end.

Often as a ref you will notice when things start to heat up. A team may be losing and begin to get nasty in Spectator. Not so much abusive, but still not very pleasent. If things should start to get bad simply ask them in spectator chat to calm down, and tell them this is not the place to argue (thats what cogs is for :P ).

If a player becomes abusive during a ladder match you simply warn them
rcon say Warning playerX on abusiveness
If he keeps doing it then you remove him/her from the server. Information on kicking by client number can be found here. http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/whsa/guide1.html

If there are multiple players becomming abusive, then you can simply give a more braod warning.
rcon say If you all can not stop the abuse offending players will be removed from this match

In alot of cases kicking the abusive player will result in his team abusing you. This can be counterd by forfeiting that team after they have again been warrned
rcon say The abuse needs to stop now or the offending team will forfeit this match.

3. What you cant do - Things refs have done in the past
**********************************************
You can not use the rcon say command to have personal conversations during official rounds. rcon say is to be used to inform the server of round and match related information only.

You can not kick a player because you do not like them or have some issue with that player/clan. If reffing that match could be a issue for you then simply inform a Gameop and we will take over for you or sit in to keep the calm.

You can not broadcast information you receive as a result of your position. This includes but isn't limited to, broadcasting a players IP. This is a potential security risk to that players computer and can legal reprocutions

As mentioned before, you can not at any time abuse a player or retaliate to that players abusiveness other than what was outlined in section .2

4. Hints & Tips - things to help you guys out
************************************
4 -a) First thing. Log everything. Alot of the time if a clan feals burnt (For what ever reason) they will blame it on the authority figure during the incident. That being you. Often enough clans and their members can over exagerate their problem, or even flat out lie. While alot of the time their lies and BS are insanely obvious, they still have to be followed through.

A simple log will qwell any disputes or problems and clear your side of the story. I suggest each ladder match you type in console
logfile 1
this will create a log of your console. Logs, kills, commands, errors and yes chat. The log is located in \mohaa\main and is named qconsole.log
You can open it in Note pade.
Simply taking screenshots of what you and the other person said is also a great idea. (remember, take ss's of what you say to them to)

4-b) DMW: This isn't always availiable. Cykasm runs DMW on server #1, so in most cases he is unable to run it on the Game create server. As starting the scanner up usually kicks 70% of the players in that server. So emptying server #1 when your match is finnished is not a good idea.

The information required to run the scanner gives the ref the ability to potentially cause harm. By harm i mean edit the GC's DMW acount so it cant be used again until we contact DMW. For this reason only a small few have the information

4-c) Matchs that are run with DMW will not be halted so a player can get him/herself "DMW ready" Server #1 runs DMW about 10 hours a day, so the clans members have plenty of time to sort out any DMW issues that may arrise.

4-d) Be polite and friendly. Nobody likes a crabby ref, and they'll let you know it to :P

4-e) Be fluent in the rules. Often players will quote you sections of the rules, but have a completely different spin on their meaning. You need to know the rules and what they mean.

4-f) Have fun... Your doing this because you love MOHAA and want to help out our community. Everyone apreciates the work you guys do, the Game arena MOHAA ladder could not run without the efforts of all you refs. We as gameops apreciarte every minute you poeple put into helping us and we're here to help you. So reguardless of any personal problems or arguments you may of had with a Gameop, we will still help you how ever we can :)

***************************
5. Gentlemens agreements -weapons and strats-
****************************************
You are as a ref at no time to enforce any gentlemens agreements. Such agreements can include, agreeing not to use the church roof during match play. Agreeing not to use rockets and or shotguns.

Teams by all means can do this, but if another team uses a weapon or stratagy that was agree'd would not be used, then tough luck. Any abuse over this issue is to be treated the same as all abuse. Warning to stop, kick the offenders out, forfeit the match.

******************
BIG HINT!!!!!!
******************
Contrary to popular beleif, you as a ref are not required to give players warnings per offence. Players get 1 (one) warning, then they are to be kicked on their next offence (reguardless of what that offence is, but obviously limited to the ladder rules)

***************
g0t lag?
***************

GC server spiking but pings are a nice 40?
maxrate on the GC server is set to 10000 by default
Try
rcon sv_maxrate 25000
That may fix the spikes until the CFG is updated

Section 5: Reporting Team killers.
***********************************

Ok, recently teamkilling has increased and as always im receiving complaints. Thats good, i need to hear about it or i cant do anything to prevent it.

What im a little annoyed about it a couple of things.
1) I cant ban someone because you tell me they're teamkilling. I dont care how many witnesses you have.

2) Carrying on from #1, i need proof someone is teamkilling. So take a screenshot and e-mail me the JPG.
(My e-mail is samman@bigpond.net.au)

Now, very important. Your screenshot needs to show who was killed, and what team they are on (I get so many screenshots of someone simply being killed, no proof that both players were on the same team)

So heres my guide for getting a tker in trouble

When your teamkilled. Hold TAB to bring up the score board, press F12 to take a screenshot.
Its that simple. The message saying "PlayerX was blow away by PlayerY" needs to be in the screenshot.

This lets me see who killed who, and the score board shows they are on the same team (One of which with a -X score hopefuly)

Screenshots that are not taken that way are useless to me, as it does not prove the player is on the same team.

***UPDATE***
If your being teamkilled multiple times, then take a few SS's.. Dont hand me one SS and claim you were tk'ed 5 times by a person/group. Upto 3 SSs will be fine.

author: sam-man

Edit: My email is cykasm@gmail.com

The preferred method of reporting team killers if either of us arent here is with the incident report system.

http://www.gamearena.com.au/help/incident/

**UPDATE 03/10/04**
Its very sad that this kind of thing happens, but it does so i have to make a note of it (Kind of like Necrophilia, it happens so often theres a word for it). Blocking a player with intent on preventing them moving or moving into a specific area is cause for a ban. Furthermore, purposely moving into a players line of fire in order to screenshot a teamkill will result in a harsh ban. Gameops are not here as a means to dish out your own kind of revenge, or act on your spite. Your complaint needs to be legitimate and proven to a point where a 3rd party unknowing of the events can read your complaint and be confident they know exactly what transpired and can act accordingly.
