Well we are finally at the climax of the season - its grand final time! And yet again we see the familiar appearance of pt vs. uprising! This is sure to be close! So nannas hold onto your panties for the details...

Grand Final Format
Pirate Treasures(3) v. Uprising (2)

Sunday Night - 830 and 930

Maps
Map 1 - uR pick[/i] dod_harrington
Map 2 - pt pick dod_argentan
Map 3 - decider dod_lennon

- Best of three Maps Decider
Both team captains are required to submit their map choice to me 1 day before the Grand Final. If a third map is required the map will be a selection from those maps that were predetermined by the GameOps at the commencement of the finals series:

1) dod_lennon
2) dod_anzio
3) dod_rails_b2

- Timeframe
Scheduling the Grand Final will be from this Sunday (14th) to Saturday (20th).

We wish both teams the best of luck, and hope to see you in SourceTV.

Can I make a suggestion that each team clandestinely submits two maps (preference one and preference two) to hbj? Then, if each team picks the same map, toss a coin to see which "preference two" map gets used as the second map of the three. Perhaps make the third the "decider" or something.

I know it contravenes what we agreed on, but that was it's not one team stating their choice, then the other team stating theirs after knowing the first one.

Or something.

Whatevs.

I hear your suggestion Dave but I think there is too many maps to pick from for your suggestion to fly. What if we pick 4 separate maps? The idea of each Grand Finalist picking their preferred map gives each team a chance to win on their chosen map. Then the 3rd and deciding map was selected by use three (hbj, you and I) well before the finals started. I know you know all this but for the punters out there who may not :)

There's no window for that this time, Stozz. Everyone else has too much on e.g. IRL commitments such as Uni exams and sport.

Left fourth finger - 'a' finger. Pistol finger lives to fight another day.

I'd like to believe there'd be a DoDEvent '10.

David: Red and myself are going to get some logistical stuff done for it, and work on it some more.

Steven: Trolling GA forums requires 0 effort, and you know it.

Oh, it's no issue of effort - though plenty was required to make the last one work - it's more an issue of no one being interested. 1.3 doesn't really exist now, let alone in another 6 months' time, and I don't know if there'd be enough interest for a Source LAN.

1.3 has been revived many times, all with the same deal that there wont be enough interest for something to work. The idea of DoDEvent 10' was to run dual source and 1.3 competitions. Which, I feel will generate at least 8 teams to be involved in it with a joint 1.3 and source community backing both games.

As a person who has revived 1.3 you know that any spark of interest in 1.3 can revive the game.

Yes, but each time 1.3 is "revived", it's a little less strong than its last revival. It occurs to me that rediscover the requisite spark, the game needs to be in recess for a lot longer than 6 months.

Also, I've always been and staunchly remain opposed to dual-game LANs. It's a good idea in principle, but think of just how chaotic the last DoDEvent was to fit in all the matches for one game; adding in a whole new competition, when many players would be playing in both games, would be a logistical nightmare. To make it work, you'd have to severely truncate the length of each tournament and that may not appeal to a lot of people.

But it's all food for thought. My primary concern is that, no matter how organised some people are, you cannot at all count on others. Match play didn't start until nearly midday on Saturday at the last DoDEvent on account of Minus not arriving until about 11am. Such a delay would be absolutely unworkable at a two-game event.

Saturday's delay in play was brought about through a couple of things which slowed down the play.

- The cut out in power in the first game between SGC and Uprising.
- My computer and red's computers were not equipped with windows or any drivers, which there was a mistake on Friday where moloko gave us the wrong Windows CD, and the windows cds which we had we couldn't get a key.

Minus rocked up on time for the saturday play, they didn't show for the sunday finals.

In my opinion, some of these problems can be avoided and people don't need to rely on a person doing a mass amount of work with rental computers.

Friday, can also be used as a additional day to have games played.

Regardless of the situation, there's always something that holds everything up; I suppose it's an unwritten rule that at every LAN, there'll be some meltdown of some sort.

Being that if I went to a DoDEvent LAN again, I'd be making another holiday out of it - on account of travelling from Perth - I'd have no problem with playing matches on Friday, but some people who are unable to get the time off work might not be so willing or able.

At any rate, if there's any serious consideration of hosting another event though, you're right in looking into venues etc now. I'd strongly recommend trying to get NetStation again, due to the contacts that AusDoD has there, not to mention the affordability and availability of surrounding accommodation.

I personally wouldn't travel interstate for another dod competition. I'm not going to start the whole dod is dead argument, but as David has mentioned interest will be non existent by then (even source seems to be dwindling).
