Hey guys, i believe that the HDMI output of my xbox isn't working as i normally have a HDMI to DVi cable plugged in from my xbox to my monitor with the original cables jammed in on top for sound. All of a sudden this has stopped working, the cable works and i can plug the xbox into our Tv. I was thinking of getting one of the xbox VGA cables for \$40 to resolve this, apparently they can go up to 1080p, I didn't think they could but is seams they can buts its an analogue 1080, not a digital 1080. Does anyone have any comments on the quality of the xbox vga cables?

The official Xbox Vga cable works great and is indeed 1080p compatible. There are third party vga cables, but some have ghosting issues, so i'd recommened you stick with the official xbox360 vga cable. I've had mine for 2 years with no issues. great cables.

There is little to no difference between the visual quality of vga, hdmi and dvi. I did a fair bit of research on this when getting a monitor and the vga cables.

Btw, 95% of the games on the xbox360 are not 1080p native, the vast majority of games are 720p or lower. So you'll rarely make use of 1080p except for the dashboard and a handful of games, mostly arcade titles.

When I owned a 360 I used a set of these and they worked fine. From memory they can only output in 720p, I could be wrong though.

Here is the list of Xbox 360 games and their rendered resolutions.

AC2 is not 1080p. It only says 1080p on the back of the game box because it supports it(upscales). Its a very shifty tactic by Microsoft.

Its very rare to see a true 1080p game.
vga cables are 1080p, ive used and tested them.

How so when VGA is an old analog signal where DVI / HDMI is digital ?

VGA, to my knowledge, can run at a maximum resolution of around 2000x1500(but technically is not limited to that. The same goes for DVI and I beleive HDMI.) Yes it is an analogue signal but it still works just as well as DVI and HDMI.

I gurantee you the Xbox 360 vga cables will run on your monitor at 1920x1080/1920x1200 (if your monitor supports it) or i will buy you a fricken new xbox.

Well, i just bought one with the 20% cash back offer, now I have to send my unique code and receipt to nsw, seems like an awful lot of effort for \$10.

It takes a few weeks before you see the money. It took me a good month or more for my \$16 to come back from my controller purchase.
