Would you recommend it?

I have had Play TV for a few weeks now and I would highly recommend it.

Setting it up is a breeze and the recording feature works fantastic even if you are recording TV while playing a game.

Sure there are better PVR devices out there such as Tivo, but all of them are way more expensive.

Ive got one.

Its good for me because i didnt previously have a digital signal TV, or a PVR device.

As Davros said, it works sweet when youre playing games - it still records in the background.

Kinda slow switching in and out of playTV mode though, which is my only gripe.
Sometimes you just want to quickly turn the TV on.

You mean the process of turning on the system, logging in, and selecting the icon Alkie? or the actual boot time once you select the PlayTV icon?

I would assume he means the boot time once you select the Play TV icon, as it usually takes 5 - 10 seconds to get into the actual app.

So if you buy a PlayTV thingy, does that then mean you ALWAYS have to have the PS3 on when watching the TV?

Kinda annoying if your PS3 is a little noisy, and expensive as the PS3 chews through a bit of juice..

If it has a seperate remote so you can still change channels while the PS3 is off then I'm sold...

For watching TV yes you will need your PS3 on, the way I solved this was when I just wanted to watch TV I bought an aerial splitter for about \$4 from DSE.

To record TV you dont have to have your PS3 on, you just need to have it in standby mode...with the red power light on.

Play TV will then wake up and shut down the PS3 as needed to record shows.

Cool, didn't think of the simple and very obvious solution of the aerial splitter.
