Hi guys,
For all those BigPond users trying to get their Xbox 360 working in Live, this is just a quick post to let you know that we're currently working with BigPond to put together some resources to help you figure out how to get online.
In the meantime we have some resources for the original Xbox that might be of some assistance. Please note that this information might be slightly out of date (there may be new hardware available that isn't listed there), but hopefully it might be enough to help people get started.
http://www.gamearena.com.au/online/xbox/
If you are having problems, please post your issues here, being as specific as possible about your setup - supplying at least the following information will help
- Cable or ADSL?
- Modem brand and model number
- Router brand and model number (if you have one)
- Any error messages that you're getting
- Any other network information that might be relevant
BIGPOND CABLE USERS:
Please note that you can _not_ plug your Xbox 360 directly into the cable modem as indicated by the Xbox 360 manual. The BigPond cable system requires a separate authentication process (this is usually handled by the BigPond client that you have installed on your PC).
If you are a BigPond Cable user you'll need to either go through a router that has BigPond login support, or plug your Xbox 360 into a home network. Unfortunately we can't provide more comprehensive support about this issue as it involves networking that is specific to your current BigPond setup and home requirements (but if you post in this thread we'll try to help out as best we can).
UPDATE:
If you're a BigPond Broadband member and you're having problems getting your Xbox 360 working online, you will have to log a support job with bigpond support.

Cant connect to xbox live.
I have bp cable direct on a SB4200 SURFboard Modem.
When i run the "Test Xbox Live Connection" theres a series 8 tests being...
Network Adapter
Wireless Network
IP Address
DNS
MTU
ICMP
XBOXLIVE
NAT
I ran the test and network adapter (wireless NA), IP address and dns all passed untill the MTU test failed. Description being that this test confirms that my network has a sufficient Maximum Transmission Unit which is a setting on my router or gateway that can affect network performance.
XboxLive requires a minimum setting or 1364 to be able to sign into xboxlive.
Went through support webpages on xbox website which all directed me to contact my isp.
Contacted telstra support on the off chance that several other calls had been made earlier and a solution had been found but to no avail. I was then informed that my best bet was too call xbox360 support in australia.
The american voice on the other end then informed me that xboxlive360 was only available to isp customers on either Bigpond Adsl or Optus Adsl in Australia.
Hope this helps coz i sure do need it :/

If you are receiving an MTU test failed message there is nothing you can personally do about it. It is most likely a problem with your ISP, so ring them.
All what the MTU test does is authenticate that you are on a broadband service (ie cable or ADSL...) as xbox live is a broadband only service (no 56kers!)
If you are capped, this could be the causing problem aswell because u dont meet the bandwidth requirements of xbox live. I have never been capped and have always had access to xbox live so i cant comment with certainty on this, but if u are capped that may be a problem.
I personally use a Motorola SB4200 Surfboard Cable Modem with a D-Link DI-524 router. I am a bigpond cable customer. So if you have the same cable modem as i do and you have an extra $100 spare, buy the above router and technically it should work, that is ofcourse unless the capping is a problem or ur ISP is limiting ur bandwidth.
Trog: Is GameArena planning on implementing some sort of way to allow its members to show off their gamercards on the site? (I noticed that you cant place html tags inside the signature area, either that or i put in buggy html code lol)

You should be able to just put in:
<img src="http://gamercard.xbox.com/SD%20DarkLord.card">
..into your signature and it should work fine

So then i decided to get creative and do some:

edit: actually I'll test it myself
edit #2: weird, it doesn't work. Maybe it is because it is a .card file and the browser doesn't know how to deal with it in an IMG tag. Sorry, out of ideas

Hi,
I'm having trouble connecting to alot of people over XBOX 360 LIVE, now I can connect fine to XBOX 360 LIVE, but just not to peoples games over LIVE. Also when I do the XBOX LIVE test it gives everything the GO, even NAT = OPEN. Also I don't have these issues when playing original XBOX games on the 360!? So here's what I'm using.
ISP: Bigpond Cable
Modem: Motorola Surfboard SB5100
Router: D-Link DI-604
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

If you're on cable, you won't be able to do this - you need a router or something on your network that allows you to log in to the cable network.

I believe you are having trouble connecting to games and other people because of some ports being closed. The best thing for you to fix this problem is to go into your router settings and find the option for DMZ's. ( demilitarized zone )
Also you will need to find out what IP your Xbox 360 using. Once you have found out what IP address your Xbox 360 is using then go into your DMZ settings and add that IP address into the settings. Your router will now leave all ports open for your Xbox 360 to communicate with other Xbox Live users. There should be no more trouble now, Enjoy !

I am new to the world of Xbox Live (360 or the original) and would like to get my new 360 up and running.
I am running ADSL on a Speedtouch 530 connected directly to the PC via USB. I have previously run Telstra cable through a Belkin router using a Motorolla cable modem so have an intermediate level of in regards to home networking.
Essentially I have my PC upstairs and my XBox 360 downstairs running on the TV.
My questions are -
1) Do I have to 'pay' for Xbox 360 Live outside of the cost I am already outlaying monthly for my ADSL plan (Unlimited* ADSL - 1500/256kbps Plan)?
2) Is it possible to network my ADSL connection from my PC downstairs to the Xbox 360 wirelessly? I noticed there is a Wireless dongle available for the 360?
Basically I am looking for some pointers on how (if at all) the best way to get up and running on my XBox Live using my ADSL connection on the PC upstairs connected to the 360 downstairs.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Yep - check out the official Xbox site for the difference in Gold and Silver plans. Quote: 2) Is it possible to network my ADSL connection from my PC downstairs to the Xbox 360 wirelessly? Quote: 2) Is it possible to network my ADSL connection from my PC downstairs to the Xbox 360 wirelessly? I noticed there is a Wireless dongle available for the 360? First off, you are not required to use the official wireless bridge. Any USB Wireless bridge will work, or so i have been told, although the 360 wireless bridge supports 802.11a/b/g frequencies, which is hard to come buy and gives u a lot more freedom in what router you may want to purchase.
Neways what you need to accomplish this is an Access Point (AP). An AP most commonly found in a home network is a wireless router, although some companies do make AP wireless cards for your PC in the form of a PCI slot. You will then have the choice of either:
a) buying just a normal wireless router and connecting your PC to it via a cable and then have your 360 connect to it wirelessly, however this runs method runs into the problem of, whenever you need to use the internet on the 360, ur PC HAS to be on.
b) purchase a wireless router that supports an ADSL connection directly to the router, ie you will have ur ADSL connected to your wireless router via cable, ur PC connected to ur router via a cable and ur 360 connected wirelessly. This solution solves the problem of having to have ur PC on whenever u want to use the internet.
Head to Harvey Norman or another tech savvy store and explain what you want to do (either option a or b) and they will be able to point you to a router which will solve your problem.

Hopefully you can find a good wireless router in there!

I have recently purchased FF11 for X360,
but i cant register the game, during the registering steps i keep getting an error.
the funny thing is, is that it gives you the option to retry if i continue to retry it eventally allow me to continue, the 7 step process takes about 2 hours then at the end it tells me the sever is down.
I called playonline support but i cant get through its voice recording just keeps repeating itself telling me "im 0 in the que".
I've had this game for about a week now and still not able to play it, does anyone have any idea of whats happening with this game or has anyone been able to play it?

I can connect to Live fine and stream music using WMC, but since the big update, my networking performance seems to have been reduced significantly. Voice chat is choppy, I get disconnected frequently, and streaming music skips a lot. This might just be a coincidence, though.
I get three out of four strength bars in network settings, but the 'active' light flashes off very frequently. Is this normal? Trying to get any advice to make my connection more stable.
I have a Netgear WPN824 wireless router, Motorola Surfboard 4200 modem (Bigpond Cable), and running XP SP2.

there is no real set answer, but most people say when you are playing a game (and not hosting) it takes 10-30mb an hour.
Thats for playing only. That obviously doesn't include downloading from the marketplace.

I figured out a way to connect without a router on a Bigpond plan
I've got the SB4200 modem, so i connected the modem to the PC via USB, not Ethernet. Then i connected the Ethernet cable from the computer to the 360, playing around with the network settings on the pc to make sure that other things could access the internet through the one connection and viola! Can play on xbox live and still go on the computer!
Note: It may only work with XP

This is probably a long shot, but i was wondering what were the network settings you played around with to get Xbox Live going through one connection ? I have been trying to get it going myself for a little while now and am having no luck.
But i have managed to 'share' the connection the same way from pc to pc using the same method (modem through usb, then network cable from computer to computer), but the Xbox isn't detecting it. When i change to a different setting, i lose the internet connection through the pc and i still can't connect to Xbox live.
