I've been chatting with some regs about trying a 1 on 1 style format, similar to that used in FH for those of you who've played. 2 big teams, 20v20+. We're starting to lose numbers/clans so this could be a way to get one last RR in.

I was thinking we could try a mini 3 week 'test' comp to see how it worked. What do others think?

Thankyou for bringing this up Gruff. I appreciate the idea you put forward but I have another proposal:

Think of all the combined current regular clan (and ex-clan) players as a "pool". By my reckoning I think there's roughly 90-100 ongoing such players which is enough to make eight 11 player teams - an 8 team ladder.

But we have to get out of the existing clan setup for this to work:

In this new idea all the 90-100 reg players names are put down on a "list" there is then a draw in which the 8 team's players are drawn at random. These 8 teams are all new teams - setup purely for the comp; they could have names like the silly ozzie rugby names:- eg like The eels, the sharks, the natives, the whatevers etc etc

In each team though we would ensure that there would be at least one "veteran" experienced at being a clan captain.

Of course you can still keep the existing clans for social and pub play but because of the differing numbers of players in clans and other clans disbanding or with only a handful we need to create new teams for the tournie out of the "pool" .

Probably trolling, but if you aren't you may remember that we couldn't even pull that off with a 5 vs 5 competition.

Also, rugby is gay.

We pulled it off for the Team sov tournie against US teams as team Ö with a full team from a "list".

Yes rugby is gay, you, Hashy and Gruff can come up with the names of these 8 new teams.

Yeah the idea of red v blue isn't a bad one - but how is that significantly different from just a crowded pub server?

It probably isn't, other than being organised. However pub numbers have dropped dramatically over the past few months (ty DHS), so this way we can still have an organised match on Sunday which resembles a scrim with decent numbers.

The match would need to be played on another server, probably 3FL#2 since GA has a max capacity of 32 players per server.

I think the red v blue idea is best at this point.

Model it on the FH model (pick a side red or blue and you stick with it throughout the entire campain/series).

We could also set up a campaign style path through the maps as in FHT...pick a set of say 10 maps and do them in date order.

Rather than having the same teams all season ( which lets face it will get pretty boring )

Why dont all available players jump into 1 TS channel at 7.30pm every sunday and pick captains who pick teams.

That way we can mix it up by playing with different people than we have been for the last 4 years, and the community can let sinbad know how we really feel by picking him last every time.

I'm not really worried about teams, but I think most of the people in clans would probably prefer to play alongside their fellow clan members. So if this just ends up being a combined DOW and iNub team for the first few rounds, I can't really see this being a problem.

If (when?) numbers start becoming an issue, we can then look to mix it up a bit.

Lets have a run this Sunday then. I reckon we should have 1 or 2 weeks as 'tests' to make sure the sides are reasonably balanced. After that we go for the real deal (a small comp of maps in chronological order.)

All the DOW guys enjoyed it.

Reasonably close rounds (took 2 rounds a piece with us up on tickets at the end)
