Okay, so let's say that you've got your retail box, your two Warhammer Online install DVDs (the second one's cunningly hidden in the sleeve marked "PC CD-ROM" in case you're wondering), and your install process goes as planned. No stoppages or fatal errors. Hoorah!

You then try to run the game (noting the strange non-graphic icon on your desktop and whoa! a dos box flashes up momentarily then nada, nothing, zip. Further investigation reveals the only executable in your new WAR folder is one called warpatch.exe.

You my friend, have been the victim of dodgy launch activity. It's not you, it's them. But fret not, as we may have dug up a solution on the internet.

Collect a working warpatch.exe from here. Replace your current warpatch.exe (in the "Warhammer Online - Age of Reckoning") folder with this one and run it. Fingers crossed - you'll be in business.

How do we know this - because our review code (retail boxed copy) has juuust done exactly the above. It's currently "patching" as we speak - will update if the installation falls over.

Bear this in mind if you're running the retail version, no word on if digital download versions will suffer the same "feature" (doubtful).

Got to love that DVD quality control! Maybe we can shoot EA a bill for tech support.

UPDATE: The above method worked for me - if you're having issues give it a lash until EA issues an official patched patcher executable

UPDATE #2: Install choking on files midway through ('Error copying file x')? Ensure you use the one optical drive for your install i.e don't insert both DVDs in diff drives. Thanks mrsatan

UPDATE #3: Game crashing after clicking "Play"? Read comments below for fix and file

UPDATE #4: If you have the same login name for your Mythic master account and your WAR game login - don't try using the same password - it will fail if you do. Use a different pass for your game login if you've got the same username.

Not the best of starts it would seem.

'Twould seem so. If it weren't for this news post I'd predict another influx of people creating accounts and then spamming half a dozen different threads all with the same question regarding this issue.

And insisting on correcting you on Trog's name...

One of the features of my DD version of the game is the incredibly helpful "Close the launcher after hitting Play with absolutely no message screen or warning, leaving me to wonder what the heck is going on". It's been doing this all week for the headstart event as well when I used the WAR files to install the client.

I found the issue I've been having since the game came out.

http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83787

The issue:
-Warhammer is downloaded, key entered, account made, and ready to go.
-Open Warpatch.exe
-Patch is deemed up to date, user agreements signed and ready to go
-Hit Play
-...............................................not hing. Maybe a screen flicker.

Possible solutions given:
-Update all drivers Dx9, Video card, sound card ect..
*Done, but problem persists
-Full file check
*Done, but problem persists
-Download usersettings.zip file, create a User folder (if none is in the file folder) and unzip file into that folder.
*Excelent, game worked and had some fun....until logging.
*Again same problem when trying to start up again.
-Unzip file again into the folder/or rename the User folder
*Done, but problem persists.
***Although, completely deleted the User folder, making a new one, and again unzipping the usersettings.zip file, seems to work.****

Grab the usersettings.zip file while you wait for a fix.

i just had the 'error copying file x' error, and it seems like its gonna do it a 2nd time as im typing :( god dam it, i read that restarting might fix it, but ffs its a brand new CE copy directly out the box wtf, why does it have troubles reading a file of a brand new dvd? is this vista striking again i wonder...

Thanks for the heads up.

Patching now, didn't have to go through the trauma.

Interestingly enough, the first thing that was patched was.... warpatcher.exe

this is so god damn bs! how can it fail constantly at different files each time and sometimes read the one it couldnt last time, ive tried installing the game like 5 times now, i feel like taking it back if i didnt spend so much effort finding a copy of the CE, and having activated it and actually liking the game from playing the beta.
"Will EA ever launch a flawless game ?" obviously no, and a very big no on their part, ffs this is so infuriating, might have to pirate the discs so i can play a game i already own what a crock

just thought id update everyone, the problem i had specifically turned out to be a poorly written installer by EA, the game will recognise a 2nd dvd drive and let you think you can have d1 in drive 1 and d2 in drive 2 BUT when it gets to copying from d2 all the path names like E:\files\art.whatever it needs to know about for d2 is still being referenced as D:\bla from d1 (ie its looking at d1 for the files in d2).
All i did was when it spat the error just pull out d1 chucked in d2 into the same drive (D:\) and it all worked.
The other error where it couldnt read the files at dif locations was a vista thing, i restarted and after than it only failed at that one spot when it needed to switch discs.

Ok i dont know if this is exactly the same issue, I'm no computer expert. So i try and install the game, it goes fine and i install disc two. I download the EA Download Manager, and that it. I cant find the WAR program at all. SO i reinstall it, 5 times now, and still nothing happens. After cursing at the game box, I look on forums and find that there are some install issues. So should i go back to gamestop which is a 3 min drive from my house and get another set of discs, use the discs my friend has which worked for him, or give up the 90$ total i've spent (i payed for 3 months of play also) and go cry in the bathroom? Or is there a solution that someone who is a noob with computer could do easily. By the way i tried to download the warpatch exe but i get a "string initalization failed" error, same as medigo.
