When Doom 3 patch 1.3.1 was originally released, we did not update the code as it was not seen as a major update to the base Doom 3 game. Due to this, the past Flaming Sheep Software coder SnoopJedi released an update patch, 1.2, for Classic Doom 3 on his own accord, which gave compatibility with version 1.3.1 of Doom 3, but introduced a number of fatal bugs.
Over the past month, since the release of Doom 3 on the Steam network, a number of team members were contacted exponentially by players about errors with Classic Doom 3 1.1 when used with the Steam version of Doom 3. What transpired is that Classic Doom 3 1.1 did not work correctly due to the steam version of Doom 3 being fully patched to version 1.3.1. Several of the past members of Flaming Sheep Software have come together to resolve these issues once and for all, and to tweak the mod further to improve the gaming experience.
Classic Doom 1.3.1 is a full mod release that has been fully tested as compatible under the following versions of Doom 3:
Steam Doom 3 This version should work without any updates as Doom 3 patch version 1.3.1 is included when purchased on steam. Simply download the zip or windows installation packages to play the mod.
Windows Doom 3 You are required to download Doom 3 patch 1.3.1 alongside our mod to enable it to work with a retail version of the game.
Maps All of the maps from the episode "Knee Deeo in the Dead" should be present. New for this release are as follows:
- E1M6 - E1M7 - E1M8
All previous maps have had numerous bug fixes applied throughout. E1M4 has been re-created from the ground up to provide a more satisfying experience.
Models Hopefully all of the item models will be updated. The models are ready, they just need final tweaks and importing into the Doom 3 graphics engine. The shotgun and pistol also need some final tweaks but hopefully all will be included in version 1.0.
Music & Sounds All of the music is now complete and has been finalised by Sonic Clang, in association with Thump Monk. The map E1M9 now has its own music instead of the Classic Doom 3 theme tune curtesy of Thump Monk. As with the maps, the new songs included in the new version of Classic Doom 3 are as follows:
- E1M6 - E1M7 - E1M8 - E1M9
Gameplay Features There has been a lot of features modified within the project, but the main features to take note of are as follows :
- Fully implemented deathmatch mode - Re-balanced weapon behaviour - Completed custom main menu system
We are so excited about the new release that we cant wait to let it into the hands of the public. We would like to take this oppertunity to once again thank the Doom 3 community for their support, and especially the people working on the Last Man Standing project ( lms.d3files.com ).
**The 1.0 release can be run under linux/mac without the custom code. The following features will not function as intended without this code, however:
-Health Vials and Armor Bonuses will bump health/armor to 100, not to 200 -Deathmatch is unsupported -The music slider and corresponding cvar (s_music_vol) will not work -The autorun cvar (ui_autoRun) will not work
To run this mod under Linux/Mac, simply unpack the zip into your Doom 3 directory and load the mod through Doom 3's mod menu.
