More details:
-------------------------------------------- Aliens vs. Predator 2 Linux Server version 1.0.9.6 May 7, 2002 --------------------------------------------
Please note that this software is provided "as-is" and is not officially supported by Monolith Productions, LithTech Inc., Fox Interactive or Sierra Entertainment. RUNNING AVP2 ON THE LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM IS NOT SUPPORTED BY SIERRA TECHNICAL SUPPORT.
What's New in version 1.0.9.6 ----------------------------- - [Linux] Added a command-line option to support alternate config files. - Contains all changes present in the 1.0.9.6 update for Win32.
Updating from avp2linux version 1.0.9.5 --------------------------------------- 1) Install the 1.0.9.6 update onto your Win32 system. 2) Copy the new AVP2L.REZ file from your Win32 system to your Linux system, replacing the old one. 3) Copy the new avp2linux file, replacing the old one.
Requirements: -------------
Software:
The Aliens vs. Predator 2 Linux Server binary was built on a Pentium-class Redhat Linux 7.1 system, using a 2.4.xx kernel, and glibc 2.2.2.
Other configurations *may* work, as long as pthreads are supported.
Hardware:
It is recommended that your system's components meet or exceed the following specifications:
450 mHz CPU (x86 Pentium class or higher is required) 128 MB RAM 128 Kbps Internet connection (upload and download) for Internet servers
Installation (complete): ------------------------
1) Install Aliens vs. Predator 2 onto a standard Win32 system. 2) Install the latest update (1.0.9.6 as of this writing). 3) (Optional) Install Multiplayer Map Update 1. It is found here: ftp://ftp3.sierra.com/pub/patches/pc/avp2_en_mp1.exe 4) Run the game, and choose Multiplayer, then Host a game. 5) Choose the Host settings you want, and start the game, then exit. This creates your ServerData directory, containing a file called unnamed.txt. 6) Copy the entire game directory to a directory on the Linux system.* 7) Copy the avp2linux binary into the same directory as lithtech.exe. 8) Make sure the MULTI.REZ file is present in that directory. If you did a compact install, you will need to copy this file from the CD. 9) Start the server with ./avp2linux or ./avp2linux [configfile]
Starting the server with no parameters will cause it to use the unnamed.txt file in the ServerData directory. Using the second parameter allows you to specify an alternate config file, which also needs to exist in the ServerData directory.
* Be careful not to alter the case of the filenames from the default Windows installation. If you are using Samba, the option in smb.conf is:
preserve case = yes
Filenames with the incorrect case may result in "Error 103" or "Error 110" messages when the server attempts to start.
Usage: ------
This is a non-interactive server.
Pre-game configuration is done by editing the config file in the ServerData subdirectory.
Commands while the server is running may only be sent by a player in the game who has server control.
The server is shut down with CTRL-C.
Security Notes: --------------- The Aliens vs. Predator 2 Linux Server WILL open a port on your machine. The default is 27888, and it may be changed in the Settings section of the unnamed.txt file.
DO NOT RUN THIS SERVER AS ROOT.
It is recommended that this server be run as a user with minimal privilege (ex: nobody).
Finally, if you are not the administrator of the system, please get permission before running this application.
Mod Notes: ----------
The Aliens vs. Predator 2 Linux server requires its resources to be in rez-file format. It will not work properly with resources that are unpacked into a directory on the system.
